Vedanta Aluminium shares gained more than 2% on Friday following the company's announcement of expanding its automotive solutions portfolio with two advanced offerings under its Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) range. According to The Economic Times, the shares increased more than 2% to trade at ₹444.65 apiece on NSE on Friday morning. The positive market reaction reflects investor confidence in the company's strategic expansion into high-performance automotive materials.
Vedanta Aluminium, a subsidiary of the Vedanta Group, has launched two advanced alloys specifically designed for next-generation automotive applications, as reported by The Economic Times. The company unveiled these innovations at AutoEdge 2026, its exclusive automotive industry conclave held in its second edition. The two new offerings include the Copper-Doped Alloy developed for high-performance automotive applications and the Vedanta Foundry Alloy (VFA), a versatile material for enhanced durability developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi. According to the latest company announcement, these innovations have been specially developed to support the automotive industry's growing need for vehicles that are lighter, more efficient, and built to perform under demanding conditions. The launch represents a strategic move to strengthen domestic sourcing and reduce import dependency in India's rapidly evolving automotive sector.
According to the company's announcement, the Copper-Doped Alloy leverages copper's strengthening properties to enhance durability, wear resistance, and performance at higher operating temperatures. This makes it particularly suitable for critical engine, transmission, and powertrain components. The Vedanta Foundry Alloy combines lightweighting with higher strength, improved corrosion resistance, and enhanced casting performance, making it suitable for both conventional and electric vehicle applications. Together, these innovations enable automotive manufacturers to improve component longevity, enhance vehicle efficiency and reliability, and meet the evolving performance requirements of next-generation mobility. As per Rediff Moneynews, aluminium is uniquely positioned to meet these parameters through its versatile combination of lightweighting, strength, durability, resistance to corrosion, and high recyclability.
As reported by The Economic Times, Vedanta Aluminium is positioned to become the world's largest primary billet producer with a capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) upon completion of ongoing capacity expansion at the BALCO plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. The company currently holds the position of India's largest PFA producer with an existing capacity of 380 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA). Its automotive portfolio includes PFA offerings used in alloy wheels, cylinder heads, engine components, and other automotive castings, along with specialized billets for HVAC applications and crash-resistant engineering applications. The company is also expanding the share of value-added products in its portfolio to 90%, driven by increasing demand for high-quality, sustainably produced aluminium in India and globally. Vedanta Aluminium has integrated quality and sustainability at the heart of its product innovation, resulting in a growing customer base spanning over 60 countries, including major automotive hubs such as the USA, Japan, Italy, France and Germany.
According to The Economic Times, domestic brokerage firm Systematix Institutional Equities earlier this month initiated coverage on the shares of the company with a Buy rating and a target price of ₹598 apiece. Backward integration is set to drive the newly-demerged company's next earnings cycle, as per the brokerage. Additionally, CLSA has an 'Outperform' rating on the shares of Vedanta Aluminium, with a target price of ₹540 apiece, while Citi has a 'Buy' call on the shares of Vedanta Aluminium, with a target price of ₹525 apiece. As quoted by The Economic Times, Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajesh Kumar emphasized that India's automotive industry is rapidly evolving, creating increasing demand for lighter, stronger and more sophisticated material solutions.
