V2 Retail shares experienced their biggest single-day fall since March 2020, crashing 20% to hit a fresh 52-week low of ₹162.55 on Monday, October 5, following the release of Q2 business results. The stock opened at ₹182.15 on BSE and touched an intraday high of ₹185 before hitting the intraday low, with heavy volume of 5.96 million shares changing hands in the first 35 minutes of trade. According to Business Standard, the crash came despite the company reporting strong revenue growth, with investors focusing on the impact of festive season timing shifts on same-store sales growth. As per SBI Securities' Sudeep Shah, the stock opened with a gap-down following moderation in revenue growth and muted same-store sales growth. The technical analyst noted that the stock has slipped below its 100-week EMA for the first time since June 2023, with immediate support placed at ₹155-₹150 and resistance at ₹185-₹190. At 12:15 PM, the stock was trading 12.59% lower at ₹176.40 on the BSE, reflecting continued selling pressure. The weakness reflects growing investor anxiety that higher prices and softer demand could squeeze value-retailers' core proposition just as the festive season gets underway.
V2 Retail delivered robust financial performance in Q2 with standalone revenue growing 28.4% year-on-year to ₹905 crore compared to ₹705 crore in Q2 FY26. This growth demonstrates continued momentum in the retailer's expansion strategy, though it represents a moderation from the 58% YoY increase to ₹997 crore reported in Q1 FY27. The company attributed this growth to the continued expansion of its store network and maintained its aggressive expansion approach during the quarter. As reported by The Economic Times, the growth came despite the festive season shifting from Q2 last year to Q3 this year, highlighting the company's ability to maintain momentum through strategic expansion. According to Business Standard, the festive calendar shifted by 19 days, with Navratri commencing on October 1, 2026 vs September 22, 2025, affecting same-store sales growth metrics. However, the festive calendar shift has created a distorted comparison that makes year-over-year same-store sales growth difficult to interpret.
V2 Retail faced significant headwinds from the shift of Navratri and Durga Puja from Q2 FY26 to Q3 FY27, which affected same-store sales growth metrics. On a festival-normalised basis, same-store sales growth stood at 0.5% in Q2 FY27, indicating stable performance across existing store locations. However, on a calendar basis, SSSG declined 14.9% as the base quarter included both Navratri and Durga Puja which have now been pushed to the October-December period. As per the company, "This timing shift underscores the importance of looking through seasonal distortions to see the underlying stability of our performance." The company noted that monthly sales per square foot stood at ₹700 in Q2 FY27, reflecting operational challenges during the quarter and lower than the ₹886 reported in Q1 FY27, with a larger portion of the store network still in the ramp-up phase. The festive calendar shift has created a distorted comparison that makes year-over-year same-store sales growth difficult to interpret, with consumers becoming "more cautious" even as the festive season gets underway.
V2 Retail maintained its aggressive expansion approach during the quarter, adding 49 new stores while closing 3 stores. As reported in the exchange filing, this net addition of 46 stores reflects the company's continued focus on geographic expansion and market penetration. The company accelerated its retail expansion across high-potential Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets during Q2 FY27. This brings total new store additions to 106 in the first half of the financial year (H1 FY27). As of September 30, 2026, V2 Retail operated 427 stores nationwide, spanning a combined retail footprint of approximately 46.28 lakh square feet. The company noted that 106 out of the company's 427 stores were opened during the first half of the current financial year, reflecting the natural ramp-up cycle of new stores and the timing of the festive season.
Despite current challenges, V2 Retail remains optimistic about future performance, with the company positioned to capture the demand uplift in Q3 while sustaining its long-term growth momentum. As per The Economic Times, the company expects stronger demand in Q3 as the festive season approaches. However, the company has cut its full-year same-store sales growth guidance to 5-7% from 8-10%, even as it retained its target of more than 50% revenue growth for the year. The broader concern reflects the outlook for value retailers as inflation and higher costs make consumers more cautious, with retailers absorbing some of the increase and keeping price hikes in check to protect demand. According to LKP Securities' Sandeep Abhange, "If you raise prices, then there is no point of value." Meanwhile, cost pressures are squeezing retailers' margins, with higher crude prices raising costs for petrochemical-based materials, packaging and freight. The pressure comes as India's retail inflation accelerated to 4.82% in August from 4.45% a month earlier, while food inflation rose to 5.95% from 5.52%. In September 2026, the company initiated a soft launch of its V2Kart e-commerce platform across Delhi NCR and Lucknow, with orders fulfilled directly from stores.
