Torrent Green Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Torrent Power, has successfully commissioned 322 MWp of ground-mounted decentralized solar power projects across Nashik district, Maharashtra. According to the latest media release from Torrent Power Limited, the projects were developed under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0 scheme, which is designed for implementation of feeder level solarisation under Component-C of PM-KUSUM scheme. The initiative represents a significant milestone in Maharashtra's renewable energy expansion, particularly in agricultural solarization, with the projects specifically designed to supply power to rural agricultural feeders during daytime. As reported by Torrent Power, this landmark project stands as a testimony to collaborative efforts of MSEDCL, local administration, landowners, project partners, contractors, and the dedicated team of Torrent, reinforcing Torrent's commitment to supporting India's clean energy transition while empowering the agricultural sector with reliable and sustainable daytime electricity supply.
The solar portfolio spans 14 talukas of Nashik district and was developed across 50 locations, making it one of the most extensive and geographically diversified agricultural feeder solarization projects implemented under the MSKVY framework. According to the official media release, this comprehensive coverage ensures broad-based solar adoption across the district's agricultural infrastructure. The decentralized solar plants are specifically designed to bring solar generation closer to agricultural feeders rather than relying entirely on power supplied from distant generation centres, supporting electricity availability for farmers while helping improve grid efficiency and reduce distribution losses. The successful execution of this complex project required coordinated development across multiple locations, involving resolving land issues, grid connectivity, local clearances, engineering excellence, and simultaneous construction activities.
Power from the commissioned projects will be supplied to MSEDCL under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement, providing long-term revenue stability for the project. As reported by Torrent Power, this arrangement ensures consistent power offtake and revenue generation for the solar installations over their operational lifespan. The execution involved complex land-related matters, grid connectivity, local clearances and simultaneous construction across multiple locations, demonstrating the project's logistical complexity. The decentralized setup is designed to make more renewable power available to agricultural feeders during daytime while improving efficiency and reducing distribution losses for the power network.
The commissioning announcement had a limited impact on Torrent Power shares, which were trading at ₹1,264.90 on the NSE as of latest market data. The stock had been trading at ₹1,268.80 as of 11:24:01 AM IST on September 8, 2026, down 0.56% from the previous close of ₹1,275.90. The stock opened at around ₹1,267 and moved up to approximately ₹1,273.50 during the morning before giving up part of those gains. The decline was relatively limited, with the stock continuing to move within a narrow range during the session. The 322 MWp portfolio adds to Torrent Power's renewable generation portfolio and strengthens its presence in decentralised solar infrastructure in Maharashtra, expanding its involvement in renewable projects alongside its existing generation business. This milestone reinforces Torrent's position as a key player in India's energy transition with total generation capacity of approximately 12.82 GWp including projects under construction.
