Electric vehicle maker Tesla has achieved a significant milestone in India's EV infrastructure by opening Delhi's first destination charging station at Nexus Select Citywalk in South Delhi. The new charging facility, strategically located in the mall's P1 parking area, features six 11kW AC destination chargers specifically designed for longer, routine vehicle charging needs. According to Tesla, the charging station is designed to deliver a seamless "Plug In, Charge and Go" experience and offers 99.95 per cent uptime, enabling Tesla owners to recharge their vehicles while shopping, dining or spending time at the mall. This marks a crucial expansion of the company's charging infrastructure in the country, with the facility representing a significant milestone in Tesla's infrastructure development strategy.
With the commissioning of this new destination charging station, Tesla now operates seven charging locations across India, comprising 20 superchargers and 20 destination chargers. The company's charging network spans Delhi, Gurugram, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai as it gradually builds infrastructure ahead of expanding vehicle deliveries in the country. This expansion demonstrates the company's continued investment in building comprehensive charging infrastructure throughout the country to support its growing EV user base. Alongside the charging facility, Tesla has opened a pop-up store from July 6 to July 10, where visitors can explore the newly launched Model Y L and the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive. The Model Y L is a family-focused electric SUV with a three-row, six-seat configuration and offers WLTP-certified driving range of up to 681 km with the seats folded. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.0 seconds and is priced from ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The pop-up store offers guided walkarounds, product demonstrations and test drives, with financing options offering EMIs starting at ₹49,990, subject to a down payment of ₹6.5 lakh. The 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is the latest version of what Tesla describes as the world's best-selling electric vehicle as of March 2026, offering up to 2,138 litres of cargo space and accelerating from 0-100kmph in 5.9 seconds.
The 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive seats up to five passengers and offers a claimed range of up to 500 km (WLTP). This model is priced at ₹50.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and buyers can opt for finance plans with EMIs starting at ₹39,990, with a minimum down payment of ₹6 lakh. Both models have received top safety ratings from global safety assessment agencies, including the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Euro NCAP, ANCAP and C-IASI. Both vehicles are now available for booking through Tesla's official website, with the company confirming that both the Model Y L and the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive are now available to order through their website.
