Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has successfully commissioned its 100.8 MW Jewali Wind Project in Dharashiv district, Maharashtra. The project comprises 28 SG 3.6-145 Wind Turbine Generators, based on advanced horizontal-axis wind turbine technology. The facility is expected to generate approximately 299 million units (kWh) of clean electricity annually, supporting decarbonisation efforts and helping Tata Power Mumbai Distribution meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets. As per the latest reports, this commissioning highlights TPREL's commitment to large-scale renewable energy projects and demonstrates the company's operational capabilities in the wind sector.
The project is expected to offset nearly 245 million kg of CO2 emissions every year, based on an estimated emissions reduction of 0.82 kg of CO2 per unit of electricity generated. This significant contribution towards decarbonisation will enhance Tata Power's clean energy portfolio and support the company's sustainability goals. The electricity generated from the project will be supplied to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution consumers, directly helping the utility meet its RPO targets and reducing the overall carbon footprint of the distribution network.
With this commissioning, TPREL's wind energy portfolio now exceeds 3.9 GW, including more than 1.3 GW of operational capacity, with the balance under various stages of development across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The company's total wind energy portfolio, including projects under development, surpasses 3.9 GW across six states. This expansion supports Tata Power's transition to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible utility and advances the company's long-term vision of achieving 100 per cent clean energy generation by 2045.
With the addition of the Jewali Wind Project, TPREL's total renewable utility capacity has reached 11.6 GW. Of this, 6.7 GW is operational, including 5.4 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity, while 4.9 GW is under various stages of implementation. The under-construction portfolio comprises approximately 2.1 GW of solar, 2.6 GW of wind projects and 0.2 GW of BESS, which are expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 6-24 months. This diversified renewable portfolio positions Tata Power as a leading utility in India's clean energy transition.
The commissioning of the Jewali Wind Project comes as Tata Power Company Limited continues to strengthen its position in India's power sector. As of July 3, 2026, Tata Power shares were trading at ₹375.00 on NSE, down by 0.37% from the previous closing price. The parent company maintains a diversified portfolio across the power value chain with a total operational and pipeline capacity surpassing 26 GW, including 17.5 GW of clean energy capacity and 8.9 GW of thermal generation capacity. The company serves nearly 13 million customers and operates a strong transmission and distribution footprint across India.
