
According to an exchange filing, Tata Power announced on Friday, June 19, that it has received a letter of intent (LoI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of REC, for the acquisition of Ryapte Power Transmission, a project special purpose vehicle. The contract stipulates annual transmission charges of ₹521.07 crore and will be developed on a build-own-operate-transfer basis to offer transmission services for 35 years from the scheduled commercial operation date, which will be 30 months after the SPV transfer. As reported by CNBC TV18, the contract has been awarded by a domestic entity and does not constitute a related-party transaction. The project is projected to generate annual revenues of approximately ₹521 crore and will strengthen power evacuation capabilities while supporting the integration of renewable energy into the grid, reinforcing the company's growing presence in India's transmission sector amid rising demand for robust energy infrastructure.
The project involves the construction and commissioning of an approximately 250 km transmission network in Karnataka, comprising a 400 kV D/C line, a 220 kV D/C line and a 220 kV underground region. The infrastructure will include a 400 kV D/C line from existing Kolar S/s to proposed Doddathaggalli GIS S/s, a 400 kV D/C line from Ryapte AIS Substation to proposed 400/220 kV Doddathaggalli GIS S/s, and a 220 kV underground cable from Doddathaggalli GIS S/s to Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura s/s. Additionally, the project will establish a 5x500 MVA, 400/220 kV AIS at Ryapte in Tumkur District along with 2x125MVAr 400 kV Bus Reactors and a 3X500 MVA, 400/220 kV GIS sub-station at Doddathaggalli (Near Hosakote). The transmission network will connect Ryapte, Doddathaggalli, Kolar, Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura substations through a combination of overhead transmission lines and underground cable links. The project is expected to strengthen power evacuation and transmission capacity in Karnataka, supporting rising electricity demand and facilitating reliable power supply across the region.
This transmission project announcement comes amid significant developments in India's renewable energy sector, with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) signing a 700 MW Commercial & Industrial (C&I) renewable energy project with ACME Cleantech Solutions marking its first entry into the C&I segment. According to a CRISIL report, India's domestic solar cell manufacturing capacity is expected to meet nearly 50% of projected demand by FY27, with the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALCM) framework accelerating investments in local manufacturing and reducing import dependence.
