
According to reports from ETEnergyworld, Tata Power Renewable Energy has successfully commissioned its 190.5 MW solar FDRE project at Kalasar, Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project operates under the contractual capacity of 460 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project and has been developed under SJVN FDRE Tranche-1. The facility will supply energy to Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) and Noida Power Company (NPCL) distribution companies. As per the company's press release shared with stock exchanges on Monday, this newly energised project forms a key contractual component of the larger 460 MW FDRE development. Additionally, Tata Power Renewable Energy has commissioned a 72.5 MW captive project at the same Kalasar location, developed specifically for Tata Steel.
As reported by ETEnergyworld, the project has successfully adopted several new technologies including BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), harmonic filter bank and static var generator systems. The Kalasar project is backed by a 115 MWh battery energy storage system to ensure continuous, dispatchable clean power and support grid stability. By pairing utility-scale solar generation with storage and advanced grid management systems, the installation is designed to deliver stable and round-the-clock green power. According to Tata Power Company, this project marks another significant milestone in India's clean energy journey by integrating large-scale solar generation with advanced energy storage and grid support technologies to deliver reliable, dispatchable renewable power.
The 72.5 MW captive project developed for Tata Steel is expected to generate 166 MUs of green energy annually and offset 1,18,856 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The project deploys 1,71,360 modules for the Tata Steel project, which have been manufactured from TP Solar. This captive project specifically advances Tata Steel's decarbonization journey while strengthening TPREL's contribution to India's renewable energy capacity. The combined projects demonstrate the growing adoption of renewable energy solutions across multiple sectors in India's clean energy transition.
According to the company statement, with these latest commissionings, Tata Power Renewable Energy's total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.4 GW. Of this total capacity, approximately 6.9 GW is operational, including 5.6 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity. The remaining close to 5.5 GW is under various stages of implementation, are expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 24 months. The commissioning of these Rajasthan projects enhances TPREL's total renewable capacity to 12.4 GW, aimed at providing stable clean energy across multiple states.
As reported by Business Standard, Tata Power Company operates as a vertically integrated power company and part of the Tata Group, with its total operational and under-construction capacity surpassing 26 GW. The company's consolidated net profit rose 10.95% to ₹1,175.93 crore on a 5.63% increase in revenue to ₹19,051.26 crore in Q1 FY27 compared with Q1 FY26. The company's stock was trading at ₹373.30 on the BSE, down 0.41% following the announcement.
