Wind energy major Suzlon Group has successfully commissioned 1,325 MW of new wind projects in Andhra Pradesh as part of its expansion strategy. IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh inaugurated Suzlon's ₹10,500 crore S144 turbine blade manufacturing unit at Hulikera village in Kanekal Mandal of Anantapur district on August 25, 2026. The plant has been established for an output of 1,325 Megawatts, marking a significant milestone in Suzlon's continued expansion in the state. The commissioning represents the company's commitment to local manufacturing capabilities, with the facility accounting for around 40 per cent of Suzlon's blade production capacity. The latest investment builds on Suzlon's more than two-decade partnership with Andhra Pradesh, with the company having catalysed approximately ₹15,500 crore of investment in the state so far.
The new projects are expected to create around 1,600 direct and indirect employment opportunities, as reported by Business Standard. Suzlon is targeting 5 GW of additional renewable energy capacity in Andhra Pradesh by 2030. The company currently has more than 1,700 MW of installed wind energy capacity in the state, having begun operations in Andhra Pradesh in 2004. This makes Suzlon the State's largest wind energy partner in the region, with the company having attracted ₹12,000 crore in investment in the district and generated employment for around 2,200 young people. The projects are being developed in partnership with clean energy players such as Tata Power, Waaree Energy, Helios Infratech Private Limited, Mytrah Vayu Private Limited, ReNew and Axis Wind Farms, representing an estimated investment of ₹10,000 crore in the state's wind energy sector.
According to the latest reports, Suzlon has invested around ₹12,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh so far, including its major blade manufacturing operations in Anantapur. The company's rotor blade manufacturing facility at Ippuru in Kuderu mandal accounts for around 40 per cent of Suzlon's blade production, with an annual production capacity equivalent to 1,260 MW. The facility supports wind projects in partnership with leading energy companies, including Tata Power. The company's Ananthapur manufacturing facility, with an annual capacity of 1,260 MW, currently supports more than 1,200 direct and indirect green jobs. Anantapur district serves as the primary operational and manufacturing base for the company in Andhra Pradesh, with existing operational sites and facilities currently employing around 2,200 people across the state.
The Andhra Pradesh government and Suzlon are collaborating on a large-scale green skills development programme aimed at preparing young professionals for the renewable energy sector. As reported by Business Standard, dedicated Wind Energy Learning Centres operate in Vijayawada and Uravakonda to train approximately 12,000 young professionals, including 3,000 women. The programme represents a joint initiative between the state government and the wind energy major to build local capabilities in the renewable energy sector, supporting wider workforce participation in the state's clean energy sector. For Anantapur in particular, Suzlon's expansion is significant as the district is being positioned as a manufacturing and skills hub for India's growing green-energy economy.
Suzlon Vice Chairman and Co-Founder Girish Tanti expressed pride in being a long-term partner in Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy journey, stating that the new projects mark a new chapter in their two-decade partnership with the state. Suzlon CEO Ajay Kapur highlighted that Andhra Pradesh's growing industrial and technology ecosystem, including data centres and new industries, is creating a new dimension to the state's energy requirements, making integrated renewable energy solutions increasingly important. The expansion further reinforces Andhra Pradesh's emergence as a destination for large-scale renewable energy investments, advanced manufacturing and green jobs, aligning with the state government's vision of Viksit Andhra Pradesh. With the state emerging as a hub for industry, technology and AI, the demand for reliable and clean energy is set to grow significantly, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leading clean-energy hub for India.
