Sun Pharmaceutical Industries has announced a significant expansion into Assam with a ₹500 crore investment to establish a new manufacturing facility. According to reports from Upstox, the project involves setting up drug formulation manufacturing units in the state to cater to the Indian market. The investment will be implemented in two phases as part of the company's strategic expansion plans.
The manufacturing facility is expected to generate direct employment for more than 500 people in a phased manner after commencement of operations. As reported by Upstox, Assam's Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota confirmed that key aspects such as land requirements, availability of water and power, connectivity, and access to skilled manpower were discussed during the meeting with company representatives.
Senior officials from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries held a meeting with Assam's Chief Secretary on Wednesday to review the company's proposal. According to Upstox, senior vice president Rahul Awasthi and associate vice president Ranjit Mohapatra met with Kota to discuss various aspects of implementing the project. The company outlined its focus on sustainable manufacturing practices, including efficient water use, increased adoption of renewable energy, and responsible waste management.
Sun Pharma shares were trading nearly 1% higher in afternoon deals on Thursday, February 5, following the announcement. As reported by Upstox, the stock gained momentum amid news of the Assam investment. The company recently reported strong Q3 FY26 results with a 16% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹3,369 crore and total revenue from operations rising to ₹15,520 crore.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries announced that its board has approved an interim dividend of ₹11 per equity share of ₹1 for the financial year 2025-26. According to Upstox, this dividend declaration was part of the company's Q3 FY26 results announcement, which also showed a 16% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹3,369 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2025.
