Sudarshan Chemical Industries has evolved from India's largest pigment producer with 35% market share to a global player following its transformational acquisition. In October 2024, the company acquired Germany-based Heubach Group, a 200-year-old company and the world's largest pigment manufacturer, with revenue approximately three times that of Sudarshan. This strategic move provided global access to consumers in the US and Europe, advanced pigment technologies, and manufacturing footprints across multiple geographies, fundamentally changing Sudarshan's position from a domestic supplier to a participant in the global coatings supply chain.
The Heubach acquisition created immediate scale but required significant integration efforts. According to reports from The Financial Express, consolidated sales revenue tripled from ₹3,346 crores in FY25 to ₹9,787 crores in FY26, while net profit declined sharply to ₹41 crores from previous levels. The company inherited significant complexity from Heubach's insolvency proceedings, including overlapping business layers and integration challenges that compressed margins. However, management's deliberate strategy to increase inventory for supply continuity was instrumental in customer recovery and volume growth.
By Q4FY26, the integration strategy began showing positive results. As reported by The Financial Express, Heubach delivered €11 million EBITDA (approximately ₹120 crores) against management's guidance of €9-10 million, without any price hikes across product lines. The company reduced Heubach's inventory by €29 million against planned reduction of €20 million, while legacy Sudarshan delivered its strongest quarterly performance with Business EBITDA margins above 14%. For FY27, management has guided €35 million EBITDA from Heubach operations, with long-term targets of €90-100 million over the next three to four years.
Recent developments show Sudarshan's continued innovation and market expansion efforts. The company has launched Sumica Bright Gold 41633, a natural mica-based effect pigment for coatings, plastics, and printing inks, expanding its product portfolio in the global market. Additionally, Sudarshan's subsidiary Sudarshan Europe BV has acquired an entity incorporated in Germany, with the newly acquired entity becoming a step-down subsidiary of the company, further strengthening its European presence and manufacturing capabilities.
