According to reports from Business Standard, Subex has entered into a three-year engagement with a leading African mobile operator for the deployment of its HyperSense Fraud Management solutions. The partnership will strengthen the operator's ability to detect and combat emerging fraud across mobile networks and mobile money operations, leveraging Subex's HyperSense Fraud Management solution to identify evolving fraud patterns and enable faster, more effective investigations. The operator is part of a major global telecommunications group, with a significant mobile money business, making this a strategically important deal for Subex in the African market. As per the latest disclosure, the contract value is USD 0.6 million, representing approximately ₹4.8 crore in Indian currency terms.
As reported by Business Standard, the operator selected Subex for its deep telecom domain expertise, proven experience across African markets and AI-powered fraud management capabilities. Nisha Dutt, MD & CEO of Subex, emphasized the unique challenges of mobile money fraud, stating that "Fraud in mobile money doesn't look like fraud in voice or data, it moves faster and can hide within legitimate-looking transactions." She highlighted that addressing this requires more than anomaly detection, explaining that "the combination of domain intelligence and AI is what HyperSense is built for." The engagement expands Subex's fraud management footprint across Africa and strengthens its position at the intersection of telecom and mobile financial services, reflecting the growing relevance of integrated, AI-powered fraud management as operators address risks spanning traditional mobile networks and rapidly expanding mobile money ecosystems.
The latest developments highlight Subex's expanded focus on subscription fraud detection and identity risk management solutions. According to industry reports, subscription fraud occurs when fraudsters obtain SIMs or accounts using stolen or synthetic identities, then monetize the account through high-cost usage, resale, or downstream fraud. The CFCA Global Fraud Loss Survey 2025 estimates losses of $5.45 billion from application fraud and $5.06 billion from credit mule fraud, with losses often occurring in the first days/weeks before risk signals are reviewed. Subex's platform evaluates onboarding data in real time using AI-based risk scoring, analyzing identity consistency, velocity signals, device attributes, geolocation, behavioral indicators, and external risk inputs to generate risk scores before approval or activation. The solution supports postpaid, prepaid, eSIM, and fully digital onboarding channels while providing integration hooks for external KYC providers, credit bureaus, and third-party risk intelligence sources.
