SJVN Green Energy Limited has successfully achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD) for the 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project located in District Jamui, Bihar. According to reports from Business Standard, the project has been executed through the company's wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy (SGEL). The project spans approximately 300 acres of land and was developed at an estimated cost of ₹342 crore. The project is strategically located near Village Hadhadiya, Kakanchaur, in Jamui district, positioning it to serve the state's renewable energy needs effectively.
The newly commissioned solar project is projected to generate around 90 million units of electricity annually during its first year of operation, with cumulative generation expected to reach 3,522 million units over 25 years. The tariff for the electricity generated has been fixed at ₹2.96 per unit, ensuring affordable and clean green power supply to the state of Bihar. This competitive tariff structure will help provide affordable electricity to consumers while supporting Bihar's renewable energy requirements, demonstrating the project's economic viability and contribution to the state's power supply infrastructure.
The project has created an estimated 15-20 direct and 50-100 indirect employment opportunities, providing significant economic benefits to the local community in Jamui. This initiative aligns with the Government of India's ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and is anticipated to reduce approximately 82,250.74 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, supporting the nation's climate commitments. The project was developed pursuant to a tender floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA), Government of Bihar, demonstrating strong government support for renewable energy development in the state.
The commissioning of this 75 MW solar project marks a key milestone for SJVN Green Energy in expanding its renewable energy footprint in Bihar and strengthening its position in India's clean energy sector.
