Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced the appointment of Aswin K as General Manager, India, effective from August 1, 2026. According to reports from The Economic Times, Aswin K will succeed Sy Yen Chen, who served as General Manager, India for more than five years. Chen's leadership and extensive experience contributed significantly to SIA's growth in the Indian market during his tenure. This appointment marks a significant leadership change within the organization and is expected to enhance SIA's strategic initiatives and operations in the Indian market. Aswin moves to India from Milan, where he served as General Manager, Italy, since 2024.
Aswin K brings more than 12 years of experience with Singapore Airlines to his new role. As reported by The Economic Times, he joined the airline in 2014 as an Aviation Network Analyst before progressing to Regional Marketing Manager for West Asia and Africa. He subsequently served as State Manager for Karnataka and Telangana in Bengaluru, followed by General Manager for Gulf and Middle East, where he oversaw SIA's commercial operations across the region. Prior to his India appointment, he served as General Manager, Italy since 2024. The aviation sector is witnessing a trend of strategic leadership appointments aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and market presence, with airlines increasingly focusing on the Indian market due to its growing travel demand and economic potential.
In his new role, Aswin will oversee SIA's operations across India and lead the airline's growth strategy in one of its most important international markets. Based in Mumbai, which serves as SIA's head office for its India operations, he will focus on strengthening SIA's presence in India while deepening engagement with customers, travel trade partners and key industry stakeholders. The appointment comes at a time when there is growing emphasis on diversity and inclusion in leadership roles within the aviation industry, with effective leadership being crucial for driving company performance and adapting to market changes in the aviation sector. SIA's commitment to the Indian market is further strengthened by the airline's significant 25.1% stake in the enlarged Air India group.
Commenting on his appointment, Aswin K stated: "I am honoured to lead Singapore Airlines' operations in one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets. India is a market of strategic importance for Singapore Airlines, and I look forward to connecting with our customers, travel trade partners and industry stakeholders as we continue to strengthen our presence across the country. As demand for international travel continues to grow and the aviation landscape evolves, we remain committed to delivering our award-winning service and world-class products via our extensive global network."
