Sigma Advanced Systems has successfully transitioned its dedicated aerospace manufacturing facility at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, from build-out to active production within an unprecedented eight months. According to the latest announcement, the facility's first batch of precision-machined aerospace components have been manufactured and shipped to Sigma UK where they are currently undergoing final verification ahead of formal delivery to the customer. This achievement represents a significant milestone in the company's expansion into Indian aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
The Sri City operation has completed the initial stages of the source-change approval process with Rolls-Royce Aerospace, as reported by Business Standard. The dedicated aerospace manufacturing facility is being developed across a larger 500,000 sq ft campus, with approximately 75,000 sq ft brought into operation in just eight months. The first facility has already provided 100,000 machining hours of annual production capacity, with this initial facility budgeted to reach a production capacity of nearly 300,000 annual machining hours. The remaining campus is expected to become operational over the next 12 months, adding further manufacturing capacity and aerospace-critical processes.
CEO and Executive Director Sunil Kalidindi emphasized that "Sri City is an important milestone in Sigma's evolution as a global aerospace manufacturing partner." According to the company's statement, the facility is designed to replicate Sigma UK's established aerospace manufacturing capability in India, with the objective to progressively bring a larger part of the aerospace manufacturing value chain into India. Once fully operational, approximately 70% of the manufacturing process is expected to be undertaken in India, with the facility having the capabilities and scale to support future acquisitions.
