Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for an EPC contract worth ₹221.3 crore from South East Central Railway for signalling and telecommunication upgrade works in the Bilaspur division. According to reports from CNBC TV18, the project includes replacement of panel interlocking with electronic interlocking systems, installation of indoor and outdoor signalling equipment, OFC huts, construction and electrification of S&T service buildings, and cabling works across multiple stations, including BSPR, KLPG, ABKP, KTMA and CHRM. The contract is scheduled for completion within 730 days.
This latest award follows RVNL's earlier success on April 16, when the company secured an L1 position for a ₹967.9 crore project from East Coast Railway involving construction of key railway bridges on the Bhadrak-Vizianagaram section. As reported by CNBC TV18, the East Coast Railway project covers the third and fourth line between Nergundi–Barang (22 km) and Khurda Road–Vizianagaram (385 km), spanning a total of 385 km. The project includes construction of major bridges over rivers Birupa, Mahanadi, Kathajori and Kuakhai using open web steel girders on an EPC mode basis.
Despite securing these significant contracts, shares of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited ended 3.55% lower at ₹284.90 on the NSE on Tuesday, May 12. According to CNBC TV18, the mixed market reaction suggests investor focus on the company's ability to execute these substantial railway infrastructure projects within the specified timelines while managing operational costs effectively.
