
Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) shares declined 4% to ₹261.05 on Tuesday, May 26, following the release of its Q4 FY26 financial results. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the stock hit an intraday low of ₹261.05 against the previous close of ₹272.45. The trading volume was particularly heavy with nearly 10 million shares traded across both exchanges during the early market session, as the company underperformed in its Q4 financial results for the year ended 2025-26. The railway stock has been under pressure with shares down 35% in the last one year and over 26% so far in 2026 on a year-to-date basis, reflecting continued investor concerns about the company's profitability trajectory.
As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, RVNL posted mixed Q4 FY26 results with revenue growth offset by significant profitability declines. On a standalone basis, the company reported net profit of ₹212.27 crore for the March quarter, representing a 43.1% year-on-year decline from ₹373.34 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. However, revenue showed resilience with standalone revenue increasing 4.77% year-on-year to ₹6,648.40 crore compared with ₹6,345.11 crore in Q4 FY25. On a consolidated basis, net profit dropped 58.92% year-on-year to ₹187.07 crore from ₹455.42 crore a year earlier, with sequential profit falling 44% from Q3 FY26. According to ETMarkets, the profit after tax fell 20% sequentially versus ₹264 crore in Q3FY26, while topline surged 48% quarter-on-quarter compared to ₹4,504 crore in the October-December quarter of FY26. Revenue from core operations advanced 4.18% to ₹6,695.91 crore in the March quarter, from ₹6,427.11 crore in the same period a year ago.
According to The Hindu BusinessLine reports, the company's operational performance showed significant deterioration during the quarter. EBITDA declined 38.42% to ₹269 crore in the fourth quarter, compared with ₹436 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The EBITDA margin contracted significantly to 4.01% in the fourth quarter, compared to 6.79% in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, indicating increased operational costs relative to revenue generation. Total expenses during Q4 FY26 came in at ₹6,535 crore, compared with ₹4,386 crore in the previous quarter and ₹6,081 crore in the year-ago period. Expenses rose 49% sequentially and 7% year-on-year, mainly on account of material consumption, employee benefits and finance costs.
As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, alongside its financial results, the company declared a final dividend of ₹0.71 per equity share for FY26, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting. The company stated that the final dividend will be paid within 30 days from the date of its declaration at the AGM, provided shareholders approve the dividend at the ensuing AGM. Additionally, The Hindu BusinessLine reports that the company also announced the closure of its joint venture entity, Kyrgyzindustry-RVNL CJSC, in Kyrgyzstan in the Central Asia region, marking a significant corporate restructuring move. The closure is subject to approval of the members in the upcoming meeting.
Despite the challenging quarterly performance, The Hindu BusinessLine reports that RVNL's order book inflow remained healthy in the month of May 2026, with several orders received from Indian Railways for multiple construction contracts. The company's market capitalisation stood at ₹55,482 crore as of Tuesday's trading session. Over the longer term, RVNL shares have delivered more than 783% returns on their investment in the last five years and over 128% gains in the last three-year period, according to NSE data. The stock has surged to its 52-week high of ₹442.80 on June 9, 2025, while the 52-week low was at ₹248 on March 30, 2026.
