
Transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering firm RITES Ltd has secured a ₹45.19 crore consultancy contract from the Public Works (Roads) Directorate, Government of West Bengal, for project management services related to the construction of a proposed four-lane extra-dosed bridge over the Muriganga river. According to the latest disclosure made on March 7, 2026, the order involves consultancy services as Project Management Consultant for the construction of the bridge, including approach roads connecting Kachuberia on Sagar Island with Kakdwip in the South 24 Parganas district. The contract represents a significant addition to the company's project portfolio in the eastern region and reinforces its position in India's infrastructure development sector. Speaking on the development, Ashok Mishra, Company Secretary & Compliance Officer of RITES, said, "This project reinforces RITES' role in delivering complex infrastructure solutions across India. Our expertise as Project Management Consultant will ensure the bridge is executed efficiently, safely, and to global standards."
Under the contract, RITES will undertake the entire design and construction supervision in the role of Authority Engineer for the project. The order has been awarded by a domestic entity, and the project is to be executed over a period of 48 months. The transaction is between the Government of West Bengal and the government-owned company, with the company confirming that the promoter, promoter group or group companies do not have any interest in the awarding entity. RITES will serve as the Project Management Consultant and Authority Engineer for the entire project lifecycle, with responsibilities encompassing complete design supervision, construction supervision, project management consultancy services, quality assurance, compliance monitoring, and technical oversight of bridge construction activities. The bridge is expected to enhance connectivity to Sagar Island, promote regional development, and facilitate economic growth and tourism in the South 24 Parganas district, once completed serving as a crucial link in West Bengal's transportation network.
Shares of RITES Ltd ended at ₹206.35, up ₹4.55, or 2.25%, in the previous trading session following the contract announcement. The company also received revised estimates from South Western Railway for the railway electrification work of the Mysuru–Hassan–Mangaluru project, including the Hassan–Arsikere section, with the revised project cost standing at ₹729.28 crore excluding GST. The railway electrification project represents a crucial infrastructure development for Karnataka's railway network, with South Western Railway awarding this project to RITES under a Cost Plus turnkey arrangement. The award of this order demonstrates RITES' continued leadership in infrastructure consultancy and project management, particularly in challenging civil engineering projects with high public impact. The stock is currently trading 34.73% below its 52-week high and 5.28% above its 52-week low, with the company's market capitalisation standing at ₹9,917.26 crore.
