RailTel Corporation of India has secured a ₹48.97 crore work order, including taxes, from the Odisha government's Higher Education Department for developing digital infrastructure. According to the company's regulatory filing with the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), the project involves developing 83 digital application modules under a Comprehensive Digital Governance Platform, along with resource deployment and integration with the existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The work order was received on October 13, 2026, at 14:10 hours and RailTel is required to complete the project by May 10, 2027. The order does not involve any related party transaction, and the promoter/promoter group has no interest in the awarding entity, as confirmed by the company's regulatory disclosure under SEBI listing regulations.
The contract has been awarded by a domestic entity with no related-party transactions involved, as reported by CNBC TV18. RailTel's shares ended at ₹252.30, up by ₹4.15, or 1.67% on the BSE following the announcement. In August, the company had reiterated its revenue growth guidance of 20-25% for FY27, with Chairman and Managing Director Sanjai Kumar projecting telecom revenue growth of 7-8% and project business growth of 40-50% annually. The disclosed execution timeline of approximately seven months ending May 10, 2027, indicates a near-term revenue recognition window for the company. Additionally, RailTel secured a ₹197.18 crore repeat order from SBI for telecom services across India for the next five years, with the stock jumping 2.2% to ₹257.15 following this announcement. As per CNBC TV18, RailTel is targeting ₹300 crore in data centre revenue this year and ₹500 crore by 2027-28 (FY28) through partnerships with real estate players rather than direct capital investment.
According to CNBC TV18, RailTel is targeting ₹300 crore in data centre revenue this year and ₹500 crore by 2027-28 (FY28) through partnerships with real estate players rather than direct capital investment. The company's Kavach railway safety business, which will start recognising revenue this year, carries margins better than the 4-5% project range and should support overall margin improvement. Kumar noted that over ₹2,000 crore in government trade receivables as of March reflects timing delays in milestone payments rather than a funding risk.
The latest order adds to RailTel's government IT services order book, strengthening its position in the digital infrastructure sector. As a Mini Ratna (Category-I) Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, RailTel owns and operates a pan-India optical fibre network along railway tracks, providing broadband, data centre, and IT integration services to government bodies, enterprises, and public sector undertakings across India. The order's classification as a domestic government contract typically carries lower counterparty credit risk, though project execution timelines and milestone-linked payment terms remain relevant considerations for investors.
RailTel has secured multiple significant orders in October 2026, demonstrating strong business momentum across sectors. On October 9, the company secured a ₹19.45 crore work order from the Ministry of Railways for the Development of Integrated Environment & Housekeeping Management (EnHM) Digital Platform of Indian Railway. On October 8, Northern Coalfields signed a ₹63.81 crore contract for primary MPLS VPN connectivity for ERP implementation, while on October 7, RailTel secured a ₹48.40 crore work order with the Odisha Primary Education Program Authority for vocational lab setup. These additional orders, combined with the Odisha digital project and SBI repeat order, position RailTel well for sustained revenue growth across diverse government and private sector clients.
