The stock hit a 52-week high of ₹1,310 on Friday, gaining 3% during intraday trading and surpassing its previous high of ₹1,283 touched on August 25, 2026. The Rs 300 crore share buyback of PVR Inox closed on September 17, 2026, marking the last chance for interested investors to tender shares as India's biggest film exhibitor bought back nearly 21 lakh shares from eligible shareholders at Rs 1,450 per share. As per The Economic Times, the buyback via the tender route opened on September 10 and was set to close on September 17. The offer price implies a 20% premium to the August 31, 2026 closing price of ₹1,203.60. The buyback represents 2.11% of outstanding equity and 4.09%/4.07% of standalone/consolidated paid-up capital at end-March 2026.
The buyback announcement follows PVR Inox reaching net cash of ₹80.7 crore at the end of June 2026 versus net debt of ₹161.9 crore at the end of March 2026. According to Business Standard, the company's FY27 capex guidance was reduced to ₹350 crore amid stronger asset-light and FOCO (Franchise-Owned, Company-Operated) traction. Management indicated that investments toward growth would remain a priority while capital-return options were being evaluated. The buyback aims to return part of the company's surplus cash to shareholders and improve return on equity, leading to long-term increase in shareholder value.
In FY26, PVR Inox demonstrated strong improvement across key operating parameters with admissions increasing by 10% from 136 million in FY25 to 150 million in FY26, while occupancy improved from 23.0% to 26.2%. As reported by Business Standard, the company expects productivity and profitability to improve through higher admissions, better occupancy, improved average ticket price and spent per head, premiumisation, food & beverages monetisation, cost optimization and capital-light expansion. The company plans to add 100-110 screens in FY27, with continued emphasis on capital-light models such as FOCO and Asset Light formats.
Separately, PVR Inox faces regulatory challenges as the Bengaluru South City Corporation has imposed fines totalling more than Rs 1.25 lakh on the company and its staff over alleged violations of solid waste management rules. During an inspection at the PVR INOX outlet on Hosur Main Road in Lakkasandra Ward, officials found that wet and dry waste was allegedly not being segregated at source and the establishment was using banned single-use plastic items. The corporation imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on PVR INOX, with Rs 50,000 for alleged non-segregation and mixing of waste, and Rs 25,000 for banned plastic usage. Additionally, Forum Mall staff were fined Rs 50,839 for allegedly dumping sewage treatment plant waste near Shop Well Supermarket in Jayanagar Housing Society Layout.
