
Power Grid Corporation of India has announced the complete commissioning of a major transmission scheme for Solar Energy Zone projects in Andhra Pradesh. According to latest reports, the project involves 2,500 MW capacity in Ananthapuram (Ananthapur) and 1,000 MW capacity in Kurnool, bringing the total project size to 3,500 MW. The project was commissioned with effect from June 24, 2026, with the company receiving the Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) dated June 25, 2026 via email on June 26, 2026. The commissioning was disclosed to the exchanges in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. As per TipRanks, the scheme strengthens grid connectivity for large-scale solar generation and supports the integration of renewable power into the regional and national network.
The project was executed by POWERGRID Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission, which was previously a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India. As reported, this subsidiary has undergone significant corporate restructuring, being amalgamated with POWERGRID Khawda II-C Transmission effective March 1, 2026 following an order dated January 27, 2026 from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The amalgamation preceded the final commissioning, consolidating the asset under the merged entity prior to the commercial operation date. This consolidation, alongside the project's commissioning, is expected to streamline operational management of transmission assets and enhance Power Grid's role in facilitating India's renewable energy expansion.
