Shares of FSN E-Commerce Ventures Ltd, the parent company of Nykaa, rallied 2.5% to ₹278.9 on Wednesday following the announcement of its strategic partnership with OpenAI. The stock has shown consistent positive momentum since the partnership announcement, with earlier gains of over 3% in morning trade on Tuesday. As per Moneycontrol, investors appeared to welcome the partnership, betting that deeper integration with ChatGPT could strengthen customer engagement, improve product discovery and support future growth for the company. The collaboration represents one of the first such collaborations between a major Indian retailer and the artificial intelligence platform, positioning Nykaa at the forefront of AI-driven commerce innovation.
According to latest reports, Nykaa has listed its beauty and fashion experiences as connected apps on the ChatGPT platform, enabling users to access the company's product catalogue, recommendations and shopping expertise directly within ChatGPT conversations. Under the arrangement, Nykaa Beauty and Nykaa Fashion will be available as connected apps inside ChatGPT, with users seeking skincare recommendations, fashion advice or fragrance suggestions receiving guidance and product discovery through ChatGPT, with Nykaa serving as the commerce destination. The integration is powered by OpenAI's Agentic Commerce Protocol, an open standard developed by OpenAI and Stripe that enables shopping experiences within ChatGPT. As per Essential Business Intelligence, the collaboration represents a significant step toward conversational commerce in India, marking Nykaa's entry into the emerging AI-driven shopping ecosystem.
The initiative is expected to create a new AI-native distribution channel for Nykaa's own brands as well as the hundreds of partner brands available on its platform. However, neither Nykaa nor OpenAI disclosed the financial terms of the agreement, any revenue-sharing arrangements, or whether the partnership grants Nykaa exclusive representation within India's beauty and fashion categories. As reported by Essential Business Intelligence, the collaboration would be implemented through multiple phases over a multi-year period, with the move placing Nykaa's own brands and partner labels in front of one of the world's fastest-growing consumer AI platforms, potentially creating a new customer acquisition channel for the retailer. With more than 55 million online customers and over 313 physical stores as of March 31, 2026, Nykaa is leveraging this partnership to expand its omnichannel strategy and tap into evolving consumer behaviour shaped by AI adoption.
Beyond customer-facing experiences, Nykaa plans to deploy OpenAI's technology across its operations, integrating frontier AI models into its platforms to enhance consumer experiences. The company will roll out ChatGPT Enterprise across teams including marketing, customer support, legal, finance, supply chain and operations, while adopting OpenAI's Codex coding agent to assist its engineering teams in software development and productivity initiatives. The tie-up builds on Nykaa's existing investments in artificial intelligence, including tools like virtual try-ons, skin analysis features and conversational assistants, as it continues to deepen its AI-led transformation. By automating recommendations and discovery, Nykaa aims to reduce marketing expenses (which were 15.2% of revenue in FY25) and improve conversion efficiency, while enhancing operational efficiency through AI-driven customer support and personalized marketing at scale.
The partnership builds on Nykaa's existing AI initiatives, which include Skin Scan for computer vision-based skin diagnostics, Virtual Try-On tools, AskNykaa's conversational shopping interface and the AI Fashion Stylist platform. These technologies reflect the company's long-term focus on using AI to simplify product discovery, improve personalisation and enhance the overall shopping experience. Rajesh Uppalapati, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Nykaa, emphasized that the company sees conversational and agentic shopping as the future of commerce, stating that "Search-and-scroll shopping is a transitional technology. The future is conversational, agentic, and deeply personal." The integration creates an additional discovery channel for both House of Nykaa brands and partner labels, with users able to access Nykaa's catalogue, product recommendations and category expertise directly within ChatGPT. The partnership positions Nykaa to strengthen its moats in the premium beauty segment where "advice-led" selling is critical, with the Indian Beauty and Personal Care market increasingly driven by personalization.
