
Defence engineering firm Nibe Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with France's Naval Group on naval shipbuilding and defence technologies. According to reports from CNBC TV18, the partnership was announced on September 18, 2026, establishing a framework for cooperation between the two companies across shipbuilding, defence platforms and autonomous systems. As per Business Standard, the agreement was formalized on September 19, 2026, setting a comprehensive framework for collaboration in modern naval technologies.
The partnership will cover underwater drones and their integration onboard submarines, future weapon-ready modular launching systems, mine countermeasure systems and engineering. As reported by CNBC TV18, the agreement encompasses underwater drones, submarine technologies, mine countermeasure systems and naval weapon launching systems, positioning both companies to support the Indian Navy with advanced naval capabilities. According to Business Standard, the collaboration will focus on underwater drones, mine countermeasure vessels, underwater submarine systems and technologies, naval weapon launching systems and their maintenance, covering the entire spectrum of modern naval technologies.
The partnership is specifically aimed at strengthening India's self-reliance in naval programmes under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. According to the companies, this collaboration will combine the experience and expertise of both firms to support the Indian Navy with sovereign, resilient and future-ready naval capabilities. Naval Group has maintained a presence in India for more than a decade and has supported the Indian naval defence industry through a network of industrial partnerships.
