State-owned NHPC Ltd has scheduled a board of directors meeting on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to consider the proposal for monetisation of future cash flows (return on equity) from one or more of its power stations. According to reports from CNBC TV18, the board's decision will be taken in its meeting scheduled at NHPC's office in Faridabad, Haryana. The monetisation is planned for a suitable tenure in a single tranche during the financial year 2026-27. As per the latest reports, the board will evaluate the feasibility of monetizing these assets in a single tranche to optimize the company's capital structure and enhance financial flexibility.
Last month, NHPC Ltd approved a borrowing plan of up to ₹8,000 crore for FY27. As reported by CNBC TV18, the company's board, in a meeting held on March 25, cleared a proposal to raise debt through a mix of secured or unsecured, redeemable, taxable, non-cumulative, non-convertible corporate bonds in one or more tranches via private placement. The company may also raise funds through term loans or external commercial borrowings (ECBs), depending on market conditions.
On the financial front, NHPC posted a 5.2% year-on-year decline in net profit at ₹219 crore for Q3, compared with ₹231 crore in the year-ago period. According to CNBC TV18, revenue slipped 2.9% to ₹2,220 crore from ₹2,286 crore. Operational performance was significantly weaker, with EBITDA plunging 79.2% to ₹210 crore from ₹1,014 crore a year earlier, and the EBITDA margin contracted sharply to 9.5% from 44.4% in the corresponding quarter last year.
Shares of NHPC Ltd ended at ₹77.10, up by ₹0.43, or 0.56%, on the BSE today, April 9, as reported by CNBC TV18. The company also announced an interim dividend of 14%, or ₹1.40 per equity share of face value ₹10, for the financial year 2025-26. The stock performance reflects investor interest in the company's strategic initiatives including the upcoming board meeting and recent financial approvals. This strategic financial move aims to leverage the Return on Equity from operational power assets to optimize the company's capital structure and enhance financial flexibility for long-term capital objectives.
