The Board of Directors of Muthoot Finance Limited has recommended the appointment of Alexander George as the company's new Managing Director, effective October 1, 2026, subject to shareholders' approval at the upcoming annual general meeting (AGM). The appointment comes as the company's current Managing Director, George Alexander Muthoot, who has led the gold loan lender for over three decades, will assume the role of Executive Vice Chairman. In his new role, George Alexander Muthoot will continue to guide the organisation, mentor the next generation of leadership, and provide strategic direction as the company enters its next phase of growth, as reported by The Hindu BusinessLine.
The Board has also recommended the elevation of K.R. Bijimon, currently Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, as the company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO). A chartered accountant by profession, Bijimon has been with Muthoot Finance for nearly three decades and will now lead the company's operational and strategic direction. Alexander George, the youngest son of former chairman M G George Muthoot, has been associated with the company since 2006 and currently serves as a Whole-Time Director, overseeing operations across North, East and West India. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, Alexander George has spearheaded several transformation initiatives across technology, digital banking, customer experience, marketing, brand building, operational excellence and people development, helping build a future-ready organisation while maintaining the trust and values that define the Muthoot brand.
The leadership changes come as Muthoot Finance reported record financial performance for the June quarter. The company recently crossed ₹1.91 trillion in consolidated loan assets under management (AUM) as of June 30, 2026, and achieved a historic milestone by crossing ₹106.06 billion in consolidated profit after tax during the financial year 2025-26. This strong financial performance provides a solid foundation for the company's continued growth under the new leadership structure, as reported by The Hindu BusinessLine.
George Alexander Muthoot expressed that every institution must prepare its next generation of leadership and emphasized that the timing was right to hand over the baton. He stated he would continue to support the company in his new role as Executive Vice Chairman and ensure a smooth transition. Chairman George Jacob Muthoot expressed confidence that Alexander George would lead the company with vision and integrity, adding that the carefully planned transition would ensure continuity, stability and sustainable growth. The existing leadership team and senior management will continue to work closely with Alexander George to drive the company's long-term strategy while maintaining strong corporate governance and stakeholder value creation.
The transition represents a carefully planned succession strategy that ensures continuity in the company's gold loan lending business while bringing in fresh leadership perspectives for future growth initiatives. The company's focus on digital transformation and future growth positions it well for the next phase of expansion, with the leadership changes supporting the organisation's strategic direction and operational excellence initiatives.
