Tyre manufacturer MRF Ltd reported mixed financial results for Q1FY27, with consolidated net profit declining 1.3% year-on-year to ₹495.35 crore compared to ₹501.82 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. However, the company demonstrated strong revenue growth with revenue from operations rising 9.64% to ₹8,415.50 crore from ₹7,675.64 crore in Q1FY26. Total income increased 10% to ₹8,610.56 crore from ₹7,804.23 crore in the year-ago period, while total expenses rose 11.6% to ₹7,960.87 crore from ₹7,132.40 crore. Profit before tax declined 3.3% to ₹649.69 crore from ₹671.83 crore in the same quarter last year, with profit for the period from continuing operations at ₹495.35 crore, compared with ₹484 crore a year earlier. The company's EBITDA fell 7.46% to ₹990.63 crore from ₹1,070.43 crore in Q1FY26, with EBITDA margin contracting sharply to 11.77% from 13.95% in the same quarter last year, indicating significant margin pressure despite topline growth. Cost of materials consumed stood at ₹5,854.23 crore, up ₹1,231.24 crore from ₹4,622.99 crore in the same quarter last year, reflecting higher material costs weighing on profitability. The results mark a reversal from MRF's performance in Q4 FY6, where the company had reported EBITDA of ₹1,263 crore and an EBITDA margin of around 16%.
Despite the weak Q1 performance, brokerage CLSA maintained an 'Outperform' rating on MRF with a target price of ₹1,65,240 per share, implying an upside of around 26% from Tuesday's closing price. The brokerage highlighted the sharp margin pressure during the April-June quarter, noting that MRF's EBITDA margin declined 453 basis points sequentially and came in below its estimate. The weakness was driven by a 566-basis-point sequential contraction in gross margin as raw-material costs increased sharply by 16-18%. However, CLSA expects the pressure on margins to ease in the coming quarters, with the tyre industry having already implemented price increases of around 7-9% and further hikes planned during Q2 FY27. The brokerage expects MRF's margin to improve sequentially as the company benefits from the full-quarter impact of price increases, further price hikes, and the pass-through of higher costs to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
The mixed quarterly results have impacted MRF's stock performance, with shares trading at ₹1,30,845 in morning trade, down 0.21% for the day, extending losses from the previous session after a weak June-quarter operating performance. The stock had fallen 2.04% on Tuesday after the company announced its Q1 FY27 results, with the tyre maker having declined 13.4% so far in 2026, compared with a 6.5% fall in the Nifty 50 over the same period. MRF's market capitalisation stood at around ₹55,450 crore. The market reaction reflects investor concerns over margin pressure despite positive revenue growth, with margin performance being a key metric to watch amid concerns over raw-material costs. Earnings per share (EPS) stood at ₹1,167.97 in Q1FY27, compared with ₹1,655.80 in Q4FY26 and ₹1,183.22 in Q1FY26, while FY26 EPS was ₹5,720.39. With the stock trading at around 22.6 times one-year forward consolidated EPS, CLSA believes valuations remain demanding, maintaining its 'Outperform' rating with the target price of ₹1,65,240 based on 18x September 2028E consolidated EPS.
Kotak Securities has retained its Sell rating and ₹1.25 lakh fair value despite incorporating what it described as elevated profitability assumptions, warning that rising crude oil and natural rubber prices could keep profitability under pressure. Analysts Rishi Vora and Apurva Desai said MRF's growth is likely to broadly track the industry, but the combination of raw-material inflation, slower pricing action and intensifying competition leaves limited room for upside. The brokerage has cut its FY27-29 consolidated earnings per share (EPS) estimates by 2-12%, primarily on lower margin assumptions. Kotak Securities noted that MRF's Q1 EBITDA came in 6.5% below its estimate, primarily because of higher other expenses and a marginally weaker gross margin. The brokerage also flagged the entry of BKT into the domestic TBR and PCR segments, which could increase competitive intensity in the replacement market, with the arrival of Balkrishna Tyres being another variable to watch as competition intensifies.
Investors will closely monitor MRF's Q1FY27 results scheduled for release today, with focus on volume growth, margins, raw-material costs and management's outlook for the year ahead. According to the latest exchange filing dated July 30, 2026, a meeting of the Board of Directors is scheduled for August 11, 2026 to consider and approve the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The filing did not mention any proposal regarding the declaration of an interim dividend for Q1FY27, maintaining the company's ₹229 per equity share final dividend for FY26. The company has already declared two interim dividends of ₹3 per share each during the financial year, with the final dividend approved at the Annual General Meeting held on August 6, 2026.
