Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd delivered robust financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, with consolidated profit rising 21.5% year-on-year to ₹549.4 crore. According to reports from CNBC TV18 and Business Standard, the Navratna defence PSU's revenue from operations increased 12.1% to ₹2,943 crore compared to the corresponding quarter last year. The company had reported a profit of ₹452.2 crore on revenue of ₹2,626 crore in the same period of the previous year. As announced by the company after market hours on Wednesday, July 30, the defence major reported these results for the June-ended quarter (Q1 FY27). The board approved the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results at its meeting held on July 30, with the financial statements reviewed by statutory auditors who issued an unmodified limited review report on the results.
On a sequential basis, the company's performance showed some moderation from the previous quarter. As reported by CNBC TV18, profit declined from ₹674 crore in the March 2026 quarter, while revenue fell 26% sequentially from ₹3,850 crore reported in the preceding quarter. Including other income, the company's total income stood at ₹3,081 crore, compared with ₹2,949 crore in the year-ago period and ₹4,134 crore in the March 2026 quarter. The sequential revenue decline reflects typical quarterly fluctuations in the defence shipbuilding sector. Finance costs rose to ₹44.3 crore from ₹35.4 crore a year ago, while depreciation and amortisation expenses were largely stable at ₹29 crore. Tax expense also increased during the quarter, tempering the flow-through of operating gains to the bottom line.
The company demonstrated exceptional operational efficiency with EBITDA rising 48% year-on-year to ₹446.6 crore compared to ₹301.7 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. According to CNBC TV18, EBITDA margin expanded significantly to 15.2% in Q1 FY27 from 11.5% in Q1 FY26, indicating stronger operational efficiency during the quarter. This margin expansion reflects the company's focus on operational excellence and demonstrates its ability to optimize costs while maintaining strong profitability in the defence shipbuilding sector. The improvement in EBITDA growth rate compared to revenue growth indicates enhanced operational leverage. Operational EBITDA surged nearly four times the pace of revenue growth, underscoring stronger cost efficiencies during the quarter. Notably, EBITDA margin expanded by 369 basis points to 15% despite total production costs rising to 65% of sales from 49% a year earlier, highlighting the company's operational resilience.
The company maintains a robust order pipeline with its total order book standing at ₹18,218 crore as of June 30, 2026, providing visibility for future execution and revenue. As reported by CNBC TV18, this healthy order book of over ₹18,000 crore demonstrates the company's strong position in India's defence manufacturing ecosystem. Mazagon Dock remains the only public sector defence shipyard engaged in the construction of both destroyers and submarines, with the capacity to simultaneously build 11 submarines and 10 warships, making it one of the country's most strategically important defence shipyards. The company's order book composition shows shipbuilding accounts for 64% of the order book, while submarines and heavy engineering contribute the remaining 36%. Earlier, the company had indicated that its order book could exceed ₹1 lakh crore once the Project-75I submarine order is awarded. The company continues to benefit from the government's focus on indigenous defence manufacturing under the 'Make in India' initiative, with consolidated financial results including contributions from Colombo Dockyard PLC (in which Mazagon Dock holds a 51% stake) and its share of profits from associate Goa Shipyard Ltd.
Shares of the defence PSU closed at ₹2,319.65 on the NSE, reflecting investor confidence in the company's strong quarterly performance. The stock ended 0.50% higher at ₹2,319.65 on Thursday, demonstrating positive market sentiment towards the company's results. However, the stock has declined more than 15% over the past year, underperforming the Nifty Next 50 index, which has gained nearly 8% during the same period. The June quarter performance demonstrated steady execution across the order book, with higher profitability despite a moderate rise in revenue, supported by improved cost efficiencies and stronger operational margins. The company's focus on operational excellence and strategic positioning in India's defence manufacturing sector continues to attract investor attention, with the latest quarterly results reinforcing its operational capabilities and growth prospects. The stock is currently trading 24.22% below its 52-week high of ₹3,061 and 12.75% above its 52-week low of ₹2,057.40, with a market capitalisation of ₹93,570.04 crore.
