Maruti Suzuki India Ltd achieved a record production of 23.4 lakh units in FY26, making it the sole passenger vehicle maker in India to reach this significant milestone. According to The Economic Times, the company also stands as the only Suzuki Motor Corporation facility globally to attain such production levels. This achievement comes as the country's largest carmaker continues its strategic expansion plans.
The second plant at Kharkhoda facility has officially opened with an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, as confirmed by recent reports. This addition doubles the annual capacity at that location, bringing the total capacity at Kharkhoda to 500,000 units. With the new capacity addition, Maruti Suzuki's overall annual production capacity across all facilities now stands at 26.5 lakh units, according to The Economic Times. The Victoris model is currently being produced at the Kharkhoda facility, reflecting the company's focus on popular SUV segments in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd plans a record ₹14,000 crore capital expenditure for FY27, as reported by The Economic Times. This investment will expand manufacturing capacity to meet rising demand, especially for small cars. The company is adding new production lines in Haryana and Gujarat to address existing facilities operating at full capacity with significant backlog of orders. The expansion aligns with the company's strategic plan to enhance manufacturing capabilities across its four key locations.
The production expansion is in line with Maruti Suzuki's plans to regain 50% market share in India, as confirmed by recent reports. When fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility will be among parent Suzuki's largest four-wheeler manufacturing locations with capacity to produce 1 million vehicles per annum, as reported by Business Standard. The company expects margin improvement by FY30, driven by SUV launches and EV growth, despite short-term pressures from mark-to-market losses and input costs.
The country's largest carmaker currently produces compact SUV Brezza and mid-SUV Victoris at the facility, according to the company's statement. This production mix reflects the company's focus on popular SUV segments in the Indian market, supporting its strategic shift toward higher-margin vehicle segments and its ambitious market share recovery plans.
