Mahindra has officially launched the Thar facelift in India on September 22, 2026, priced at ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated three-door SUV comes with refreshed features and design elements, positioning it as an upgrade for existing Thar customers and an entry point for lifestyle SUV buyers. The launch represents Mahindra's continued focus on enhancing its flagship off-road vehicle with modern features while maintaining the Thar's core off-road capabilities. On-road prices in cities like Serampore start from ₹12.05 lakh, with the top model reaching ₹22.23 lakh, as reported by latest market data.
Mahindra & Mahindra expects combined volumes of its Thar and Thar Roxx SUVs to rise by at least 10% over the next 12 months, as reported by Business Standard. The automaker sold around 100,000 units of the Thar and Thar Roxx over the previous 12-month period and expects volumes to rise to around 110,000 units or higher over the next year. According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, the company anticipates this growth driven by a refreshed portfolio and strong market demand.
Mahindra has increased production capacity for the Thar and Thar Roxx to around 11,000 units per month, as reported by Business Standard. The company has built flexibility into its production lines to shift capacity between the Thar and Thar Roxx depending on demand patterns. This capacity expansion is designed to manage demand without significant waiting periods during the festive season, when inventory levels typically rise to cater to increased customer demand.
Mahindra has deliberately built up inventory ahead of the festive season, with stock levels currently above 30 days, according to Business Standard. While inventory typically averages around 30 days, the company has increased levels to cater to expected festive season demand. Gollagunta explained that this inventory build-up is by design to ensure adequate supply during the peak selling period.
Mahindra expects a 'fairly robust' festive season, supported by a series of recent launches and refreshes across its SUV portfolio, including the XUV 9e, BE 6, Scorpio N, 3XO and the newly refreshed Thar OG. The company launched the Thar OG at an introductory price of ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom) on Tuesday, with deliveries scheduled to begin on October 11. The refreshed model is expected to contribute around 60,000 units annually to Mahindra's SUV volumes. Mahindra maintains its monthly Thar volume expectation at around 4,500-5,000 units and expects the new model to help manage demand without significant waiting periods during the festive season.
