According to an exchange filing reported by The Economic Times, JSW Infra has received a letter of award (LoA) for the integrated development of an outer container terminal consisting of two berths and five berths at Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) at the Kolkata Dock System. The project has been awarded on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The concession agreement will be valid for a 30-year tenure and will be executed in two phases, with the project expected to create a total capacity of approximately 0.93 million TEUs.
As reported by The Economic Times, this award builds on the company's earlier letter of award for the reconstruction of Berth 8 and mechanisation of Berths 7 and 8 at NSD, Kolkata, with a capacity of 0.45 million TEUs, with interim operations expected to commence shortly. Together, these two projects meaningfully expand the company's footprint at one of India's key eastern gateway ports and reinforce its strategic presence in the Kolkata Dock System. Upon completion, including the capacity from the ongoing Berth 7 and 8 project, the company's combined container handling capacity at the Kolkata Dock System is expected to scale up to approximately 1.4 million TEUs.
According to the latest reports, JSW Infrastructure Limited is a key entity of the JSW Group and operates as India's second-largest private commercial port operator. The company operates thirteen strategically located port concessions along India's west and east coasts, positioning it as a major player in the country's maritime infrastructure sector. The latest Kolkata Port project represents a significant expansion of its eastern gateway operations and reinforces its strategic position in one of India's key maritime trade corridors.
