State-owned engineering and construction company IRCON International Ltd. reported a 43.6% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to ₹93 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, even as revenue and operating profit increased. According to the company's latest filing, the company had posted a net profit of ₹164.5 crore in the year-ago quarter. Despite the profit decline, consolidated revenue from operations rose 9.5% to ₹1,956 crore from ₹1,786.3 crore a year earlier. Total consolidated income, including other income, stood at ₹2,042.73 crore for the quarter, compared with ₹1,892.38 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 2.9% to ₹205 crore from about ₹200 crore, as reported by the company's filing. However, EBITDA margin narrowed to 10.5% from 11.1% in the corresponding quarter last year. The margin compression indicates increased operational costs despite revenue growth, affecting the company's overall profitability metrics. The modest operating-profit growth lagged behind the revenue expansion, contributing to the overall profit decline.
IRCON reported that toll-collection rights of Ircon-Soma Tollway Pvt. Ltd. (ISTPL), a joint venture in which it holds a 50% stake, ended on May 14 following the expiry of the extended concession period. According to CNBC TV18, the highway assets are being handed over to the National Highways Authority of India. ISTPL had a net worth of about ₹216.17 crore as of June 30, with IRCON's 50% share amounting to about ₹108.09 crore. The company stated it doesn't expect any impairment in the value of its investment in the joint venture.
Separately, IRCON announced on June 23 that its joint venture with Badri Rai & Company had secured a ₹763.1 crore contract from Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. for a smart-grid project in Agartala. As reported by CNBC TV18, the joint venture will undertake the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of an underground power-cable network, smart-grid applications and communications infrastructure across the Agartala municipal area. The Ministry of Railways has also granted in-principle approval for the closure of Bastar Railway Pvt. Ltd., with legal formalities underway.
Shares of IRCON International closed 1.32% lower at ₹126.45 on August 12, reflecting investor concerns over the profit decline despite revenue growth. The market reaction suggests investor focus on the company's ability to maintain profitability margins amid operational challenges and the impact of asset transfers on its joint venture portfolio. The sharp decline in profitability despite revenue growth has raised questions about the company's operational efficiency and margin management capabilities.
