US-based Ingredion Inc, a multinational ingredient solutions company operating in food, beverages and pharmaceutical sectors, has announced a significant investment in Sanstar Ltd, an Ahmedabad-based corn-based specialty products and ingredient solutions firm. According to reports from The Times of India, the investment is valued at ₹198.3 crore and will be executed through the preferential allotment route. The investment involves Corn Products Development Inc, an arm of Ingredion, purchasing equity shares at ₹110 per share.
As reported by The Times of India, Sanstar's board has approved the preferential allotment of equity shares to Corn Products Development Inc. However, the fund infusion requires additional approval from Sanstar's shareholders before completion. The investment represents a strategic partnership between the two companies, with both entities establishing a joint venture in India as part of the broader collaboration.
According to the company release cited by The Times of India, the fund infusion is designed to strengthen Sanstar's balance sheet and accelerate capacity expansion. The investment will enable the company to diversify into value-added specialty product segments, positioning it for growth in higher-margin product categories. This strategic move is expected to enhance Sanstar's operational capabilities and market position in the specialty ingredients sector.
As reported by The Times of India, the investment will facilitate technology transfer and know-how sharing in advanced starch derivatives, plant-based ingredients, and functional texturant systems. The joint venture established between the companies will focus specifically on specialty pharmaceutical excipients and other high-value ingredient solutions. This strategic partnership is expected to leverage Ingredion's global expertise in ingredient solutions while supporting Sanstar's expansion into specialized pharmaceutical applications.
