Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the new flight routes and passenger facilities at Bhavnagar and Rajkot airports on Sunday, marking the official launch of the Bhavnagar-Navi Mumbai route. As reported by Rajkot News, the inaugural flight was flagged off by the minister from Bhavnagar Airport, with the first flight departing at 8.30 am on Sunday. IndiGo will now operate two daily flights on the route, scheduled in the morning and evening, using ATR aircraft to serve the growing connectivity demand between the two cities.
According to reports from Indo-Asian News Service, IndiGo has significantly expanded its operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport with more than 30 new routes scheduled between March 29 and April 23. The airline will connect Navi Mumbai to cities including Agra, Ayodhya, Bagdogra, Belgaum, Chandigarh, Diu, Kannur, Kolkata, Patna, Rajkot, Srinagar, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam, among others. Following this expansion, IndiGo will operate more than 400 weekly departures from Navi Mumbai, substantially enhancing connectivity across regions. The airport is developed and operated by Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited, which is one of India's largest greenfield airport projects completed in record time.
As reported by Rajkot News, the new air link is expected to boost Bhavnagar's diamond industry, trade and tourism by improving connectivity with major urban centres. Airport Director Tapankumar Nayak confirmed the launch, with officials highlighting the strategic importance of the route for regional economic development. Alongside the flight launch, Bhavnagar Airport has been upgraded with new passenger amenities, including a passenger library and dedicated laptop workstations with personal desks. The revamped terminal now features Wi-Fi connectivity and multiple mobile charging points to enhance passenger convenience, supporting the airline's commitment to improving regional travel experiences.
According to Indo-Asian News Service, IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), the country's largest private airport operator, announced a strategic partnership earlier this month. Under this partnership, IndiGo BluChip members can earn five IndiGo BluChips for every ₹100 spent on duty-free products pre-booked through the Adani platform. Members can browse, reserve and pay for products online before departure and collect their purchases conveniently at the airport. Suchit Bansal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Non-Aero, AAHL, said the airport operator is transforming how travellers' shop at airports by integrating digital discovery, pre-order convenience and seamless collection through the Adani platform.
According to Indo-Asian News Service, IndiGo operates a fleet of over 400 aircraft and more than 2,200 daily flights across over 95 domestic and 40 international destinations. The airline carried 124 million passengers in 2025. The expansion represents a significant enhancement to IndiGo's domestic network, focusing on improving access to smaller cities while maintaining its position as one of India's largest airlines. As reported by Indo-Asian News Service, shares of Interglobe Aviation Ltd., IndiGo's holding company, closed 4.48% lower on Friday, March 28, ahead of the new flight routes announcement, with the stock having declined 9.25% over the past month.
