Indraprastha Gas (IGL) announced its fourth CNG price increase within 15 days, raising prices by ₹2 per kg effective Tuesday, May 26, at 6 am. According to reports from Upstox, this latest hike extends a series of price revisions that began on May 15, when the company increased prices by ₹1 per kg, followed by a ₹2 per kg revision on May 15. The cumulative impact has resulted in CNG prices in Delhi rising ₹5 per kg over the last 15 days.
IGL shares opened higher at ₹161.9 per share and hit a 52-week high of ₹169.8 per share on NSE following the announcement. As reported by Upstox, other city gas distribution companies also benefited from the positive sentiment, with Mahanagar Gas shares jumping 3.1% intraday and Adani Total Gas shares trading over 8% higher. The market rally reflects investor confidence in the sector amid ongoing price adjustments.
According to Upstox data, current CNG prices across major Indian cities show Delhi at ₹83.09 per kg, Mumbai at ₹81 per kg, Kolkata at ₹93.5 per kg, and Chennai at ₹91.5 per kg. The price differential reflects regional variations in energy costs and distribution networks. The latest hike brings Delhi's CNG prices to their current level after the series of recent adjustments.
As reported by Upstox, the CNG price increases come amid high volatility in global energy prices, with uncertainty around the US-Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz opening. Brent Crude oil prices are already trading above $100 per barrel, which is particularly challenging for oil importing countries like India. This global energy market pressure is contributing to the sustained price adjustments across the sector.
According to Upstox, the CNG price increases coincide with broader fuel market adjustments, as oil marketing companies including BPCL, HPCL, and Indian Oil have increased petrol and diesel prices four times since May 15, 2026. Petrol and diesel have seen a cumulative increase of over ₹7 per litre in the last 10 days, with petrol prices in Delhi crossing the ₹100 mark for the first time in four years.
