
Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) has significantly increased its green energy consumption to 22% of total power consumption, up from approximately 18% in FY2025-26. According to reports from ETEnergyworld, the Vedanta group firm is progressing towards meeting approximately 70% of its overall power requirements through renewable energy by FY2027-28. The company has strengthened its renewable power generation capabilities across business units in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable energy practices in the mining sector. As reported by PTI, CEO Amarendu Prakash emphasized that with renewable power now accounting for 22% of power consumption and the ambition to reach 70% by FY28, the company is demonstrating that clean energy is fundamental to creating a more resilient, competitive and responsible business.
During FY'26, Hindustan Zinc generated 892 million units of green power, representing a substantial increase from 632 million units generated in FY'25. As reported by ETEnergyworld, this growth in green power generation, combined with renewable power procurement, has contributed to steady growth of renewable energy in the company's overall power mix. The company's renewable energy portfolio includes solar, wind and energy storage solutions for power supply across its operations. According to PTI, the company's renewable energy initiatives form part of its broader sustainability roadmap and support its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated decarbonisation pathway towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050 or sooner.
To support its renewable energy targets, Hindustan Zinc expanded its round-the-clock renewable energy power delivery agreement with Serentica Renewables from 450 MW to 530 MW. According to the company's statement, this expansion demonstrates its commitment to securing reliable renewable energy sources for its operations. The company is also advancing its energy transition by upgrading power connectivity from the state transmission network to the central transmission utility, alongside implementing innovative in-house projects that support a cleaner, more resilient and energy-efficient future.

Separately, PTI reported that Hindustan Zinc plans to spend $500-600 million, or about ₹5,000 crore, on capital expenditure in the current financial year. According to CEO Arun Misra, around 80% of the planned capex will be allocated to projects already under execution, while the remaining 20% will fund new projects that the company plans to announce shortly. This substantial investment reflects the company's commitment to expanding its renewable energy infrastructure and supporting its ambitious clean energy targets.
