
Hindustan Zinc has announced the appointment of Amarendu Prakash as its chief executive officer-designate, effective June 19, 2026. According to reports from Business Standard, the appointment was approved by the company's Board of Directors at its meeting held on June 19, 2026, based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee. Prakash brings over 34 years of leadership experience in the metals and mining sector, with expertise spanning operations, project execution, business transformation, technology, and strategic management.
As reported by Business Standard, Prakash most recently served as Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), where he led the company's transformation initiatives focused on capacity expansion, operational excellence, digitalisation, and sustainability. During his distinguished career at SAIL, Prakash held several key leadership positions, including Director (In-Charge) of Bokaro and Rourkela Steel Plants, where he oversaw operations and profit-and-loss responsibilities for 9.2 million tonnes of steel-making capacity. Before becoming Chairman in 2023, he served as Chief Business Advisor to the Chairman, playing a pivotal role in SAIL's business transformation and financial turnaround. A Metallurgical Engineering graduate from BIT Sindri, Prakash joined SAIL in 1991 as a Management Trainee (Technical) and steadily rose through the ranks, gaining extensive experience across plant operations, production planning, sales coordination, and manufacturing leadership.
According to Business Standard, Hindustan Zinc reported impressive financial results for Q4 FY26, with consolidated net profit jumping 67.59% YoY to ₹5,033 crore from ₹3,003 crore in Q4 FY25. On a sequential basis, net profit rose 28.52% from ₹3,916 crore in Q3 FY26. Revenue from operations increased 49% YoY and 23% QoQ to ₹13,544 crore in Q4 FY26, driven by higher zinc and silver prices, increased production, lead concentrate sales, better by-product realisations and a stronger dollar. The company is the world's largest integrated zinc producer and among the top 10 silver producers globally.
As reported by Business Standard, the stock price fell 2.53% to ₹537 on the BSE following the announcement. The appointment comes as Hindustan Zinc seeks to further strengthen its leadership team and accelerate its next phase of growth, innovation, sustainability, and value creation. The company holds around 74% share of India's primary zinc market and exports to over 40 countries, positioning it as India's largest and one of the world's leading integrated zinc producers.
