The company, described as the world's largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, stated that the domestic retail momentum remained robust during the month, with over 496,000 registrations based on data from VAHAN portal, except for Telangana. The four major manufacturers - Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, and Royal Enfield - are estimated to account for about two-thirds of the country's two-wheeler market, highlighting their dominant market position. As per The Economic Times, the strong performance across major two-wheeler manufacturers indicates robust demand across motorcycle and scooter segments, with exports continuing to be a key growth driver for several players.
As reported by Business Standard, domestic sales at Hero MotoCorp rose 9.8% to 536,784 units, while exports surged significantly by 78% to 33,284 units during May 2026. The company's overall domestic motorcycle and scooter business sustained strong momentum in May 2026, registering robust nearly 10% dispatch growth compared to the corresponding period last year. According to The Economic Times, the company's domestic motorcycle and scooter sales increased 10% due to the strong performance in the Deluxe 125cc segment, premium motorcycles, and scooters. Popular two-wheelers like Hero Splendor, Hero HF series, Hero Passion, Hero Glamour, among others, are manufactured by the company.
According to Business Standard, Hero MotoCorp's emerging mobility brand VIDA reported 19,052 VAHAN registrations in May 2026, delivering 166% retail growth year-on-year. VIDA also commenced retail operations of the DIRT.E K3 in select markets, expanding its electric mobility product range and accessibility. The company is strategically positioned to attract a younger demographic of riders and has been expanding its electric vehicle market presence. VIDA's partnership with the Kolkata Knight Riders was recognized with the 'Breakthrough Marketing Campaign of the Year' award by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon'ble Minister of Road Transport & Highways, at the Times Drive Auto Summit and Awards on 05 May, 2026.
As reported by Business Standard, exports emerged as a key growth driver across the industry in May 2026, with most manufacturers reporting healthy gains in overseas shipments. Hero MotoCorp's exports surged 78% year-on-year to 33,284 units from 18,704 units a year earlier, while TVS Motor's two-wheeler exports rose 48% to 158,546 units. Bajaj Auto, traditionally India's largest two-wheeler exporter, recorded a 30% increase to 183,676 units, and Suzuki Motorcycle India reported a 5% rise to 22,216 units. However, Royal Enfield was the exception with exports declining 33% year-on-year to 9,116 units from 13,609 units a year earlier. Analysts noted that wholesale volumes continued to outpace retail sales, aided by inventory replenishment at dealerships, with retail sales of internal combustion engine two-wheelers growing at a slower pace due to high base effects.
