Shares of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) gained 1.5% on Thursday, September 3, following the announcement of strategic partnerships. According to reports from CNBC TV18, the stock was trading at ₹2,531.8 after the MoU announcements. The stock has demonstrated strong performance with a 4% gain so far this year, reflecting positive investor sentiment toward the company's expansion initiatives.
GRSE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with global maritime organisation DNV during the SMM Hamburg Maritime Trade Fair in Germany on September 2. As reported by CNBC TV18, the collaboration will combine GRSE's expertise in warship design, shipbuilding and marine engineering with DNV's capabilities in classification, certification, technical assurance, digitalisation, sustainability and maritime advisory services. The partnership will focus on advanced warships and specialised vessels, green shipping and sustainable technologies, digital shipbuilding, artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0, along with skill development, training and knowledge exchange. GRSE stated there is no financial implication ascertained at present from the MoUs, with the partnership expected to strengthen its capabilities in digitalisation, green technologies and advanced shipbuilding practices.
Separately, GRSE signed an MoU with Damen Technical Cooperation B.V. to establish a technical and business collaboration framework for exploring the design and construction of advanced dredgers in India. According to CNBC TV18, the partnership will combine GRSE's shipbuilding capabilities with Damen's expertise in Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD) and Water Injection Dredgers (WID). Areas of cooperation include technology and design, transfer of technical know-how, joint design and construction proposals, indigenous dredger-building capabilities, and future dredging requirements. The agreement builds on an existing collaboration between the two companies, including a 1,000-cubic-metre dredger currently under construction for the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA). GRSE said the new MoU will strengthen its position in the specialised dredger segment and support India's requirements for modern dredging capabilities.
As reported by CNBC TV18, GRSE, a Navratna defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has built more than 800 platforms, including 118 warships for the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and friendly foreign countries. The company operates four shipyards and can undertake concurrent construction of up to 28 ships. The two MoUs expand GRSE's collaboration with international maritime technology companies beyond its core warship-building operations, with the Damen agreement also opening potential avenues in specialised commercial maritime infrastructure.
According to reports from CNBC TV18, GRSE stated there is no financial implication ascertained at present from the MoUs.
