Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) shares rose 3.51% to ₹2,896.50 following the announcement of its Navratna status achievement. The defence shipbuilder received Navratna status from the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) under the Ministry of Finance through an Office Memorandum dated June 19, 2026. The recognition reflects GRSE's strong financial performance, operational efficiency and contribution to national security, as stated in the company's exchange filing dated June 20, 2026. The Navratna status provides greater financial and operational autonomy to public sector enterprises, enabling them to undertake larger investments and expansion projects without requiring extensive government approvals.
GRSE delivered exceptional standalone net sales of ₹2,119.21 crore in March 2026, representing a robust 29.1% year-on-year growth. The company's standalone net profit surged 24.1% to ₹303.20 crore in Q4 FY26, compared with ₹244.25 crore in Q4 FY25. This strong performance has contributed to the company's remarkable 15% year-to-date share price surge, reflecting positive market sentiment following the company's recent achievements. The latest financial results demonstrate GRSE's continued momentum in delivering strong operational performance across its defence manufacturing portfolio.
The company delivered eight warships in FY26, including an impressive achievement of three vessels on a single day on March 30, 2026. These included the advanced guided-missile frigate Dunagiri, survey vessel Sanshodhak and anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft Agray. GRSE has built more than 800 marine platforms and delivered 118 warships to the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and friendly foreign countries, establishing itself as a major defence manufacturer. The company is also expanding its commercial shipbuilding business, currently constructing 12 multi-purpose vessels for a German client and has ventured into green and autonomous vessel development. As reported by the company, the elevation to Navratna status comes as GRSE pursues capacity expansion through both brownfield and greenfield projects.
Chairman and Managing Director Commodore P.R. Hari (Retd.) described the conferment as a 'defining moment in GRSE's journey' and emphasized that the status would help pursue strategic opportunities and enhance global competitiveness. The recognition is expected to strengthen its ability to pursue strategic opportunities, enhance self-reliance in defence manufacturing and improve global competitiveness. GRSE traces its origins to 1884 and was taken over by the Government of India in 1960, delivering India's first indigenous warship, INS Ajay, in 1961. The company is the only Indian shipyard specialising in research vessels and continues to strengthen its ability to pursue strategic opportunities and enhance self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
