Outgoing Chairman Nadir Godrej announced that the next generation of leaders at Godrej Industries will focus on innovation-led growth while preserving the group's long-standing values after he steps down as chairman in August. According to reports from NDTV Profit, Pirojsha Godrej will take over as chairman during this transition period. The outgoing chairman emphasized that the group's future growth will come from innovation across its businesses rather than from any single segment, marking a strategic shift toward comprehensive technological advancement.
Godrej identified innovation as a priority across the group's diverse business portfolio, including consumer products, chemicals, agriculture and financial services. As reported by NDTV Profit, he highlighted oil palm as one of the sectors with significant growth potential, noting that domestic production could help India reduce edible oil imports. The company's sustainable oil palm operations utilize drip irrigation, agricultural land instead of forest clearing, and waste product utilization, making them environmentally friendly while maintaining profitability. Godrej Chemicals has now launched SLNOVA, a proprietary biosurfactant platform developed using renewable feedstocks and fermentation techniques, marking the company's debut in surfactants made using biotechnology.
According to the NDTV Profit interview, Godrej emphasized that technologies such as artificial intelligence will play a larger role in the group's future operations. He stated that Godrej Capital would support emerging industries through financing, positioning the financial services arm to capitalize on technological advancement. The chairman expressed confidence that the group would play an important role in AI and related technologies as part of their strategic evolution. Godrej Chemicals serves customers in 70 countries with a portfolio including oleochemicals, surfactants, specialty chemicals, and biotechnology products, while investing actively in research and development initiatives.
Godrej emphasized that sustainability has been part of the group's philosophy for decades and will continue under new leadership. As reported by NDTV Profit, he stated that businesses should serve the wider ecosystem alongside generating profits, with environmental protection, diversity, equity and inclusion, and responsible labour practices strengthening long-term business performance. The chairman noted that while many people think there is a cost to being sustainable, smart decision-making can result in choices that benefit society and business simultaneously. Godrej Chemicals places significant emphasis on safety through robust administration and consistent improvement, with the company's manufacturing facilities in multiple parts of India.
