Fermenta Biotech shares surged 14.21% to ₹395 per share on BSE following the announcement of its FSSAI approval for Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) - Plant Source (VITADEE Green). According to Moneycontrol, this regulatory milestone has significantly boosted investor confidence in the company's plant-based nutrition solutions. The approval enables the company to market its plant-based Vitamin D3 as an ingredient for health supplements, nutraceuticals, and food products in the Indian market, positioning Fermenta Biotech as a key player in India's growing nutritional ingredients sector.
The newly approved VITADEE Green® represents a significant innovation as it offers an animal-free alternative to conventional Vitamin D3, which is typically sourced from sheep's wool lanolin. As reported by Moneycontrol, unlike conventional Vitamin D3, VITADEE Green is a plant-based version of the nutrient, giving vegetarian consumers and food manufacturers an animal-free alternative. This plant-based approach addresses the growing demand for sustainable nutrition solutions, particularly relevant as Vitamin D3 has been linked to urban lifestyles, indoor living and limited sun exposure. The product supports the government's "Make in India" initiative by providing a domestically manufactured alternative for Indian formulators.
The newly approved VITADEE Green® represents a significant addition to Fermenta Biotech's portfolio, as it is developed and manufactured entirely within India. As reported by Moneycontrol, this domestic manufacturing approach supports the Make in India initiative and strengthens India's self-reliance in nutrition solutions. The company emphasized that VITADEE Green is protected by an Indian process patent, reinforcing its position in science-backed Vitamin D3 products. According to Prashant Nagre, Managing Director, the company was among the first Indian firms to develop and patent a process for producing plant-source Vitamin D3, describing the product as a sustainable, scalable and affordable option for food fortification and nutrition products.
The regulatory approval opens significant market opportunities for Fermenta Biotech across multiple product categories. As reported by Moneycontrol, the approval allows Indian food and supplement manufacturers to incorporate VITADEE Green into fortified staple foods, food and beverages, dietary supplements and nutraceuticals. The company stated that the approval opens up India's large consumer market for its plant-based Vitamin D3 solution and reinforces its position in science-backed Vitamin D3 products. For India's vegetarian consumers, who have had limited access to a plant-source Vitamin D3, the development brings a domestically manufactured, regulatory-cleared option to the market, supporting the broader national objective of addressing Vitamin D deficiency through food fortification.
