
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Wednesday signed a ₹449-crore contract with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy. According to an official statement issued by the ministry, the contract was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on June 10, 2026. The deal has been signed under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category and includes a minimum of 75 per cent indigenous content. This successful induction of satellite jammers represents a crucial step towards bolstering defence capabilities and indigenising advanced military technology, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flagship Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The ECGNSS Jammers are specifically designed to counter hostile satellite navigation capabilities. As reported by the ministry, the system's capabilities include degrading the satellite signal acquisition and tracking performance of the adversary GNSS receiver and signal spoofing or deceptive jamming. The induction of these systems will support the safe operation of Indian Navy vessels in complex operational conditions, according to the official statement. The ministry emphasized that the induction would pave the way for safe operations by the ships of the Indian Navy in a multi-threat environment, with the systems expected to enhance the safety and operational effectiveness of Indian Navy ships.
The contract aligns with the government's push for domestic defence manufacturing and self-reliance. According to the ministry statement, the contract reinforces the Government's commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India while bolstering the maritime security architecture of the country. The ministry described the agreement as a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to bolster defence capabilities and indigenise advanced military technology. This successful induction demonstrates India's growing self-reliance in the defence sector and commitment to indigenous shipbuilding capabilities.
In a significant development alongside the defence contract, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the establishment of a 250 MW solar power project with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh on the same day. As reported by the ministry, this marks the Ministry of Defence's first large-scale renewable energy project to be developed on defence land. The project will cover around 850 acres of vacant defence land at the former Sitapur Cantonment and is expected to strengthen energy security for defence establishments across Uttar Pradesh while reducing dependence on conventional sources of power. The initiative forms part of the broader effort to optimise the use of vacant defence land while advancing clean energy and sustainability goals.
The ECGNSS jammer procurement is part of a broader modernisation push across multiple defence platforms. According to CNN-News18, the Indian Navy has issued a requirement for indigenous 80-mm air-to-ground rockets for its MiG-29K fighter aircraft fleet as part of efforts to reduce dependence on imported munitions and strengthen combat preparedness. This move reflects a broader focus on indigenising weapons, ammunition, spare parts and critical systems for Russian-origin military platforms that continue to form a significant part of India's defence inventory.
