
Deccan Gold Mines Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR-CECRI), Karaikudi, establishing a framework for collaboration in scientific research and technology development. The partnership was disclosed on July 28, 2026, under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations & Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, and focuses on leveraging CSIR-CECRI's electrochemical expertise for Deccan Gold's assets in India and Mozambique. According to the latest disclosure, the collaboration aims to strengthen India's domestic supply chain for critical minerals by combining Deccan Gold's resource assets with CSIR-CECRI's scientific expertise.
The proposed areas of cooperation include scientific studies on extraction, recovery and characterization of nickel from Ni-PGE ores of the Bhanwarpur Complex (Bhalukona). The collaboration will also involve evaluation, characterization and metallurgical test work on lithium concentrates produced from Deccan Gold's Mozambique operations, with a view to developing suitable beneficiation, extraction and value-addition technologies. The partnership encompasses development of beneficiation, hydrometallurgical and electrochemical processes for nickel extraction and purification, leveraging CSIR-CECRI's status as a premier constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), known for pioneering India's first Lithium-Ion battery fabrication technology.
The MoU includes research and development of Nickel-Carbon (Ni-C) battery materials and laboratory-scale cells, representing a significant advancement in battery technology development. The collaboration will focus on joint development of project-specific research programmes, technology validation and commercialization opportunities. The arrangement is non-binding in nature and provides the framework for executing project-specific agreements as mutually identified opportunities arise. This development aligns with Deccan Gold's broader strategy to transition beyond traditional mining into technology-led value addition.
The MoU is valid for an initial period of two years, providing sufficient time for the collaboration to develop and execute various research projects. As reported by Business Standard, the arrangement is designed to facilitate the development of suitable beneficiation, extraction and value-addition technologies for Deccan Gold's operations while advancing the state of Nickel-Carbon battery technology through joint research initiatives. Dr. Hanuma Prasad Modali, Managing Director of Deccan Gold Mines Limited, emphasized that nations leading in scientific innovation and downstream value addition will shape future global supply chains. He stated that the collaboration brings together world-class research and responsible resource development to accelerate indigenous technologies and support India's clean energy ambitions.
