Shares of Data Patterns (India) declined nearly 7% to ₹4,158 on the BSE following the release of Q1 FY27 results, reflecting investor concerns about the subdued performance despite revenue growth. According to The Economic Times, the stock movement came after the company reported a 14% year-on-year decline in standalone net profit to ₹22 crore in Q1 FY27 compared to ₹25.5 crore in Q1 FY26. The market reaction highlights investor focus on profitability challenges despite the company's improved revenue performance, with the defence electronics company facing broader market pressures during the quarter.
Defence electronics company Data Patterns (India) Ltd. reported mixed financial results for the June quarter, with net profit declining 14% year-on-year to ₹22 crore from ₹25.5 crore in the previous year. According to the latest company announcement, revenue from operations increased 17% to ₹116 crore from ₹99.3 crore, indicating improved business activity despite profitability challenges. The results suggest that while the company achieved double-digit revenue growth, higher costs prevented the increase in revenue from translating into higher earnings during the quarter. As per the company's media release, the quarter has met expectations with encouraging order inflow since the start of the financial year, with operational EBITDA remaining largely stable at ₹31 crore compared with ₹32 crore in the year-ago quarter.
The company's profitability was significantly impacted by margin compression, with EBITDA declining 2.18% year-on-year to ₹31.4 crore from ₹32.1 crore. As reported by The Economic Times, EBITDA margin contracted to 27% from the previous year, representing a decline from the company's historical performance. This margin compression indicates that operating costs increased at a faster pace than revenue, weighing on profitability during the quarter and suggesting operational efficiency challenges during the reporting period.
Despite quarterly challenges, Data Patterns maintains a robust order book position with ₹2,654 crore worth of orders as of June 30, 2026, compared to ₹730 crore a year earlier. According to The Economic Times, the company's CMD Srinivasagopalan Rangarajan noted that the quarter has met expectations with a healthy pipeline of opportunities and the company now receiving larger-value complete system contracts. The company works closely with defence PSUs including Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and Bharat Electronics Ltd, as well as government organisations involved in defence and space research such as DRDO and ISRO. Rangarajan attributed the relatively modest revenue to temporary delays in customer approvals, with over ₹226 crore in orders received so far and more in the pipeline, expecting these delays to normalize in coming quarters.
The company's board approved the acquisition of a 100% stake in Chennai-based ST Advanced Composites Pvt. Ltd. (STAC) for ₹10 crore. According to The Economic Times, this acquisition will provide Data Patterns with in-house capabilities to manufacture composite components used in radar systems and other defence programmes. The acquisition will result in an in-house capability for composite parts required in the company's radar and other programmes, thereby expanding the addressable value proposition in Data Patterns' product offerings. Rangarajan expressed confidence that the company is increasingly securing larger-value complete system contracts, while its counter-drone business and export initiatives continue to gain traction. The company remains confident of achieving its full-year guidance, supported by the government's continued focus on indigenous defence manufacturing, with the strategic investments beginning to translate into meaningful business opportunities and stronger market positioning.
