City Union Bank has appointed Vijay Anandh as its new Managing Director and CEO, effective May 2026, according to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine. The banking regulator has approved this internal appointment to succeed long-time MD and CEO N Kamakodi, who is completing his 15-year tenure in April 2026. Anandh currently serves as Executive Director at the bank and brings over 28 years of banking experience to the role.
As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, Anandh outlined his strategic priorities for the bank's continued growth. The new CEO emphasized building on the bank's core strengths in MSME lending, gold loans, and secured retail segments. He stated that the bank has consistently achieved double-digit growth across recent quarters and aims to sustain this performance to exceed industry-level growth. The bank reported a net profit growth of 16% year-on-year at ₹332 crore in Q3FY26, driven by growth in advances and improved yield on advances.
According to The Hindu BusinessLine, Anandh highlighted the bank's commitment to technology integration and cyber security as key priorities. He noted that the bank is already investing in technology and plans to use AI for governance, transaction monitoring, and customer ease. The CEO also emphasized that physical branch expansion will continue as CUB serves MSMEs, where customer contact and relationship building remain crucial.
As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, Anandh expressed optimism about the bank's growth prospects based on recent market developments. He noted an uptick in demand across segments following GST rate cuts and indicated that recent trade deals are likely to help MSMEs upgrade their capacity. Regarding gold loans, he confirmed that the share of gold loans has remained fairly stable in overall advances, with the bank maintaining control over special mention accounts and benefiting from a favorable macro environment.
According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the management transition represents an internal succession plan with the board opting to elevate an existing executive rather than appointing an external candidate. Current MD and CEO N Kamakodi, who has been with the bank for 59 quarters, confirmed that he will complete his tenure on April 30, 2026, based on current regulatory requirements. Anandh was first appointed as Executive President at CUB in 2023 and was designated Executive Director in 2024.
