Caplin Point Laboratories has officially announced through a regulatory filing the acquisition of 10 approved Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) for injectable and ophthalmic products from a leading multinational generic pharmaceutical manufacturing company. According to the latest reports, the acquisition was executed through its subsidiaries Caplin Steriles Ltd. (CSL) and Caplin One Labs Ltd. (COL), with Caplin One Labs acquiring five of the 10 ANDAs under the current transaction. The company submitted the press release to BSE Limited and National Stock Exchange of India under Regulation 30 on January 1.
The acquisition encompasses a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical products across key therapeutic segments, including select oncology injectables that will be transferred to and commercialized from the company's new dedicated oncology facility in Kakkalur. As reported in the filing, the portfolio includes multiple approved ANDAs for both injectable products and ophthalmic products, totaling 10 approved applications. The acquired products originate from a leading multinational generic manufacturer, providing established market credibility and regulatory compliance for immediate market entry.
The acquired portfolio carries substantial commercial value, with the combined addressable market of $473.2 million for the 12-month period ended August 2025. According to Caplin Point Chairman CC Paarthipan, "The US market remains a key growth engine for the Company, and this acquisition meaningfully accelerates our strategy by expanding and strengthening our portfolio in the region." This acquisition represents a significant expansion of Caplin Point Laboratories' presence in the generic pharmaceutical market, particularly strengthening its position in injectable and ophthalmic segments while the company did not disclose the financial consideration for the transaction.
Caplin Steriles, which focuses on sterile formulations, has now achieved 49 approvals from 53 ANDA filings in the US, including the newly acquired products. According to recent reports, the subsidiary is working on a robust pipeline of over 55 injectable and ophthalmic products planned for filing over the next four years. The approved status of these ANDAs provides immediate market entry opportunities, eliminating typical regulatory approval timelines and associated uncertainties, while injectable products represent a high-value segment and ophthalmic products address specialized therapeutic needs in eye care.
In a separate regulatory development, Caplin Point Laboratories has successfully completed a five-day INVIMA-Colombia inspection at its Puducherry injectables manufacturing facility between December 8-12. According to the company's announcement, this inspection demonstrates compliance with Colombian regulatory standards and strengthens the company's Latin American expansion strategy. The Puducherry facility now houses both INVIMA-approved manufacturing capabilities, with the injectables section recently cleared and the Softgel section previously approved, creating a comprehensive manufacturing hub for the Latin American market.
While Caplin Point primarily serves emerging markets in Latin America and Africa, the company has been steadily scaling its footprint in regulated markets through its sterile and oncology platforms. According to Chairman Paarthipan, the company plans expansion "to key non-US markets, including Mexico, Canada, the European Union, and Brazil." The company recently reported strong financial performance with an 18% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹154.4 crore for the September quarter, compared to ₹130.8 crore a year earlier, while revenue grew 10.6% to ₹534 crore from ₹483 crore. Additionally, EBITDA increased 15% to ₹189.2 crore with operating margins improving to 35.4% from 34.1%.
Shares of Caplin Point Laboratories initially surged to intraday highs of ₹1,871 following the acquisition announcement but subsequently declined, closing 0.6% lower at ₹1,827.1. According to market data, the stock has faced headwinds over the longer term, down 27% over the last 12 months. Despite the recent volatility, the strategic acquisition combined with successful regulatory approvals is expected to strengthen the company's competitive position in both regulated US markets and Latin American expansion markets, providing diversified revenue streams through its enhanced portfolio.
