State-run BSNL has provisionally posted around 10% increase in revenue from operations in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, according to Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. As reported by Upstox News Desk, the company's total revenue from business operations reached ₹4,418 crore in Q1 FY27, compared to ₹4,017 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. This represents a ₹401 crore increase in revenue generation. The growth was supported by strong performance across all three core business segments - Consumer Fixed Access (CFA), Enterprise Business (EB) and Consumer Mobility (CM) - with each segment contributing to the overall double-digit growth in operating revenue. Minister Scindia made these disclosures during the Strategic Review and Planning Meet (SRPM) held on Tuesday.
According to reports from PTI, BSNL's average revenue per user (ARPU) has provisionally increased from ₹100 to ₹102.7 for the quarter ended June 2026. This improvement in ARPU reflects the company's enhanced monetization of its user base and better service pricing strategies during the quarter. The increase demonstrates BSNL's ability to generate higher revenue per customer, indicating improved operational efficiency and service quality. However, the No. 4 carrier's ARPU continues to lag behind private-sector players, primarily because a large majority of BSNL's customers are on 2G and voice services, with the telco starting to offer 4G services last year with plans to migrate customers from 2G to 4G and eventually to 5G.
As reported by Upstox News Desk, BSNL's enterprise business segment emerged as the fastest-growing vertical with revenue increasing to ₹1,745 crore from ₹1,463 crore, reflecting a 19% year-on-year growth. The Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Assam circles were among the top performers in this segment. The consumer mobility business also showed strong growth with provisional revenue growth of 8% over the corresponding quarter last year, with Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand circles exceeding their quarterly targets. However, the consumer fixed-access segment maintained stable revenue at ₹960 crore in Q1 FY2026-27 from ₹950 crore in the same period last year, with Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh (West) and Karnataka circles recording strong performances. Minister Scindia highlighted that while the enterprise and mobility segments drove growth, the fixed access segment's stability reflects the company's diversified revenue base.
Minister Scindia noted that BSNL's operating profit has shown steady improvement over recent years, rising from around ₹2,100 crore two-and-a-half years ago to ₹5,100 crore in FY2024-25 and ₹7,500 crore in FY2025-26. However, the operating profit for Q1 FY27 was not disclosed during the recent review meeting. The minister expressed optimism about future performance, stating that BSNL's capital expenditure is on track and looking forward to even more encouraging results in Q2 of FY2026-27. The meeting also reviewed key operational parameters, including network availability and quality of service, alongside the company's financial performance.
According to Business Standard, BSNL is moving ahead with the rollout of an additional 22,000 4G sites, for which purchase orders have already been issued for a part of the project. The carrier will continue to invest in batteries, media and other network infrastructure as part of its modernization strategy. Minister Scindia emphasized that BSNL's capex is on as planned, with the company looking forward to even more encouraging results in Q2 of FY2026-27, indicating confidence in sustained growth momentum across its business segments. The review meeting was attended by Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Telecom Secretary Amit Agarwal, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A Robert J Ravi, senior Department of Telecommunications officials and BSNL's circle heads.
