BMW Group India will implement its fourth price increase this calendar year, as reported by Rediff Moneynews. The luxury car manufacturer's President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar announced the upcoming price hike during the launch of the new BMW 7 Series range, citing continued pressure from foreign exchange fluctuations and commodity costs. According to Brar's statement, the company has already implemented three price revisions in 2026, cumulatively increasing prices by up to 5% across the BMW and MINI vehicle portfolios. Speaking to reporters, Brar emphasized that "The forex has hit us quite a bit. We have increased prices by 4-5% till now and there's another one around the corner. So the prices will continue to go up for us because of the pressure of forex, of commodities, etc."
The forex pressure has been particularly severe, with the Indian rupee depreciating by approximately 18% since January 2025, as reported by Rediff Moneynews. Brar explained that the foreign exchange impact has hit the company quite significantly, with the next price increase being considered for implementation next month. The CEO indicated that prices will continue to rise due to the ongoing pressure from both forex fluctuations and commodity cost increases, stating that "We have already done three (price) increases this year and there's another one around the corner. We are considering it (the next price hike) may be, next month. Since last year January it (forex) has deteriorated about 18 pc."
The price announcement coincided with the launch of the new BMW 7 Series range in India, featuring both petrol and all-electric powertrain options. According to Rediff Moneynews, the flagship sedan will be available in petrol and all-electric configurations, with the BMW i7 M70 also being locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai. Brar highlighted that "In addition to the 7 Series, the new BMW i7 will also now be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai. With this, India becomes the only other country apart from Germany where the i7 is locally produced. The new BMW i7 M70 will be available as a completely built-up unit." The new 7 Series was unveiled by Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who was introduced as the brand voice for BMW India. The cars are available at an ex-showroom price range of ₹1.95 crore each for the new BMW 740 M Sport and BMW i7 eDrive 50 xDrive M Sport, while the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is priced at ₹2,65,00,000 (ex-showroom). Deliveries will commence from October 2026 and bookings are now open at BMW India dealerships.
Despite ongoing price pressures, BMW India continues to demonstrate robust performance in the Indian luxury car market. As per Rediff Moneynews, BMW is on track to cross 20,000 vehicle sales this year, representing strong double-digit growth. Brar attributed the company's success to new product introductions and electrification initiatives, noting that "BMW is growing at a strong double-digit pace, while the non-BMW portion of the luxury market is declining." India has emerged as BMW's fastest-growing market globally this year and has moved into the company's top 20 markets, with the next target being the top 15 markets. The company's confidence in the Indian market is reflected in Brar's statement that "In luxury, if you give the good right product, customers don't mind, you know, coming to you even if it becomes more expensive."
BMW India is experiencing significant growth in its electric vehicle segment, with electric vehicles accounting for 26% of BMW's sales in the first half of the year, up from 21% last year. According to Rediff Moneynews, Brar expects this share to cross 30% in the second half and could reach 35-40% next year. The company has been expanding local production of electric vehicles, with the X1 electric, i5 and i7 now assembled in India. Around 95% of the company's sales are locally produced, with imports accounting for roughly 5%, demonstrating BMW's commitment to local manufacturing capabilities in the Indian market.
