Alternative credit platform BlackSoil Capital has deployed ₹1,600 crore in FY27 as IPO-linked funding demand rises significantly. According to Business Standard, managing director Ankur Bansal attributed this growth to the maturation of India's IPO market over the past 12 months. Companies preparing for IPOs or refinancing existing debt structures are increasingly turning to alternative credit as a solution provider, marking a new focus area for the firm over the past year. In the first quarter alone, the platform committed ₹700 crore of credit deployment, demonstrating strong momentum in the early months of FY27.
As reported by Business Standard, BlackSoil expects continued deployment toward financial services, agribusinesses, and consumer-focused companies. The platform has recently deployed funds in firms including VLCC, MintOak, and Suminter, while also acquiring Creditfair's solar financing business. 15-20% of deployment is directed toward consumer space, with focus on healthcare and health technology, while 20-25% targets agricultural and financial services companies. The company also maintains presence across logistics and electric vehicles sectors while maintaining its sector-agnostic approach.
According to Business Standard, BlackSoil has recorded gross deployment of ₹13,000 crore over the past decade with minimal losses of ₹35 crore and gross non-performing assets of ₹50 crore spread across 10-11 companies. The platform has also expanded its presence across logistics and electric vehicles sectors while maintaining its sector-agnostic approach. Bansal explained that losses were typically situations involving shareholder disputes, highlighting the platform's disciplined underwriting standards.
As reported by Business Standard, Bansal explained that while equity players can't solve all situations, the mid-market microfinance sector has grown significantly. Companies require working capital for inventory and manufacturing, typically funded by debt, and debt financing becomes essential when companies raise capital, as it represents a proportion of debt for most companies. The firm's focus on debt solutions addresses the growing need for alternative financing options in India's evolving market landscape, with the Indian IPO market having deepened over the past 12 months.
