Bajel Projects shares surged 17% following the announcement of the *Bajaj group'*s major healthcare sector entry, as reported by Business Today. The smallcap stock's significant rally reflects investor confidence in the group's strategic diversification into healthcare. The investment commitment of ₹2,000-2,500 crore over three years in Pune has captured market attention, with the stock price movement indicating positive market sentiment toward the group's expansion into essential services.
The Bajaj group has announced its entry into the healthcare sector with a significant investment commitment of ₹2,000-2,500 crore over the next three years in Pune. According to reports from Business Standard, Nirav Bajaj, Chief Executive and Managing Director of Bajaj Integrated Health System, revealed that the group will expand into up to 12 cities over the next decade. The investment will fund the development of a comprehensive healthcare facility including clinics, ambulatory services, home care, and a hospital in Pune.
As reported by Business Standard, Nirav Bajaj outlined the group's innovative healthcare model that focuses on prevention to acute intervention while moving patients away from hospital settings. The approach emphasizes treating patients at appropriate venues based on medical acuity needs. The business will not use traditional metrics such as bed count or average revenue per operating bed, instead focusing on building the healthcare model without acquiring existing assets due to the different approach adopted.
According to Business Standard, the group plans to launch its first clinics and ambulatory centres in Pune within the next six months, with the over 450-bed hospital requiring up to four years to complete. Nirav Bajaj stated that the format will be similar across other cities, with Mumbai being the next target and the group expecting to be across 7-8 cities in the next 10-12 years. The expansion will be driven by the compelling opportunities in the healthcare segment and the group's commitment to building essential services that India can be proud of.
As reported by Business Standard, Nirav Bajaj, who is the first representative from the fifth generation of the over-century-old business family to helm operations, emphasized that the group offers him autonomy to operate while maintaining core family values. Niraj Bajaj, the son of Bajaj Auto chairman Niraj Bajaj, stated that the availability of family members to manage drove the entry into the new business. The group has been present in healthcare through charity hospitals in the past, and this presents a compelling case for family entry into the space.
