Bajaj Finserv has announced the launch of Finserv Intelligence, a comprehensive technology initiative worth ₹1,500-2,000 crore over a five-year period. According to reports from The Economic Times, the holding company for financial services in the Bajaj Group will focus on building scalable technology solutions in India for global markets. The initiative represents a significant shift from the company's traditional three to five-year research focus to include medium-term research capabilities, with the company announcing it will invest up to ₹2,000 crore in artificial intelligence and technology-led startups over the next five years. As per Bajaj Finserv, this program will be managed by a dedicated investment team and will prioritize early-stage companies from seed funding to Series B rounds that demonstrate strong scalability potential.
The investment program will prioritize early-stage companies from seed to Series B with scalability potential across multiple technology sectors. As reported by The Economic Times, the focus areas include AI, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, fintech, and consumer technology platforms. The initiative aims to leverage both India's foundational digital public infrastructure and AI capabilities to create high technology, scalable, secure and low-cost solutions for India and the world. According to the latest announcement, Finserv Intelligence (FI) has been designed as a holistic innovation ecosystem with a five-to-ten-year horizon for realisable impact through academic collaborations, investments in the start-up ecosystem and in-house specialists. The initiative will support high-tech, low-unit-cost, highly scalable solutions that are developed in India for both the domestic and global markets.
Bajaj Finserv will establish partnerships with multiple academic institutions and build a 40-strong in-house team as part of the Finserv Intelligence initiative. According to the company's announcement, work on new initiatives has been ongoing for the past six months. The initiative has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Master Collaboration Agreement with IIT Bombay to establish a joint research centre and outline joint projects focusing on AI, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, and the reimagining of physical retail experiences. The initiative envisages research and development labs, centres of excellence, venture-led models and scholars-in-residence programme for capability building. In addition to financial services, Finserv Intelligence plans to expand into areas such as digital financial inclusion, preventive healthcare, health technology, and climate solutions.
Chairman Sanjiv Bajaj explained the strategic rationale behind the initiative in an exclusive interview with The Economic Times. He noted that while the company has built research capabilities over the past 15 years with a three to five-year timeframe focus, the advent of AI growth in recent years made it timely to expand to a five to ten-year window for medium-term research. As per Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj emphasized that the next decade of value creation in financial services will belong to those who develop the technology that drives it. The company's vice chairman and managing director, Rajeev Jain, explained that Finserv Intelligence offers founders more than just financial capital. "Startups will connect directly with Bajaj Finserv's enterprise ecosystem, benefiting from our governance frameworks, financial discipline, operational depth, and market insights, alongside flexible investment sizes and committed follow-on funding," Jain stated. The initiative aims to be a strategic co-architect for deep-tech founders, aiding them in transforming promising ideas into market-ready, resilient institutions.
